Hindsight being 20/20, what could have been done differently to stop the rise of the oligarchs during the collapse of the Soviet Union?
Should Russia have instituted a privatization plan where no one single family (however defined) could not own more than 1 percent of any privatized former state-owned corporation?

People said the Scots built the British empire. It’s little different with us.

Just now on MSNBC he said they are strategically winning.
I still don't think I will go that far.
The loss for Russia will come after the traditional war dies down. In all likelihood cities will continue to fall, but Russia then has to hold those cities. They have to control them. They will have to do that while facing an insurgency. They'll be an occupying force that has very little support back home. That will be shite for morale that is already near the bottom.
That's why when I type that Russia will "win", win is always in parentheses.

Frankly it's insane Ukraine from the first day has told their people to do it.
Yet, if the people didn't fight Russia would likely just roll right through the country. It is a damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario for them.
However, the fact that a large amount of the civilian population has chosen to stand and fight should tell you all you need to know about how they feel regarding their Russian "liberators".

Haven't read to much about random civilians dropping flaming alcohol bombs on the Redcoats.
Hopefully it doesn’t happen in significant numbers, but this policy will increase civilian casualties.
The Russians have already opened up their rules of engagement because of attacks by people in civilian clothes. There will be mistakes, and the Russians will end up killing people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I will tell you for certain that there will be mistakes and then there will be "mistakes".

Every Western country is an oligarchy, including our own.

So is it time to create Russian Invasion thread Bingo card yet?
Let’s hear some ideas.
“Someone asks if explosion is thermobaric”
“It’s not Americas business”
“Ukraine is winning”
“Posts unbelievable propaganda”
“Ghost of Kiev”
“Russia is sanction proof”
“WW3”
“Putin is really fighting the libs/NWO/globalists”
“War crimes”
“Nukes”
OMlandshark melts over Biden/Harris
“Any dissenting opinion labels poster a Putin supporter”

You’re being a little too Galaxy-brained. Yes, we have rich people with influential power.
But the situation in Russia is much, much worse. They have half the GDP of Texas but 110 million more people. And they don’t have a snowballs chance in hell in unseating Putin from power while he’s still alive.

It sounds like the Russians mean to take Odessa at all costs. Their first effort didn't go well.

Ukrainians aren't interested in being Russia Jr and the older Klitschko went on CNN saying they were ready to die.

Russians have at least 30% support there

That were organized in significant part from the untrained civilians to fight the British.

Look at it like any military will; You are sitting on the balcony of your apartment dropping molotovs on APC's and other vehicles on the road below. The guys you are throwing them at are not going to bother going into your building and finding you apartment. They are going to throw some tank rounds into your building killing not only you but, more importantly, your neighbors.
Not arguing with that, I agree with another poster who pointed out it’s not actually a war crime. If you engage, of course it will likely be returned. Obviously not ideal, but when you’re invaded by a much larger enemy than your army can handle it’s that or just rollover. Good for them not rolling over, but yes there’s risk.

Well, that kind of narrows down their options, doesn't it?

Big time explosions in Kyiv tonight. Many are reporting that they are the worst/largest/loudest they've seen so far.
