If it is true, it's a brilliant move by Ukraine.
They get Russia's top unit to attack Russia for them. Maybe Prigozhin made a deal to save his skin after the war. How much would it be worth to Ukraine for this to happen? A few hundred million is a solid price to pay to do this to Russia. Hell a billion in cash to end it would be a steal.
ETA: I said earlier that I didn't think the Free Russia Corps would join with Wagner for the march on Moscow; however, if Ukraine made a deal with Wagner.......
ETA 2: Prigozhin released a video this week saying the entire Russian justification for the war was a lie. That sounds to me like a guy who might end this war if he had control.

Ask yourself the question "why today"? Why in the middle of the Ukrainian Offensive did a supposed ultra-nationalist like Prigozhin decide to declare war on the Russian MOD.
Remember, In the last couple of weeks Ukraine invaded Belogord and started an aggressive probing attack in the south, Russia has had to move troops to respond so they are already weaker in the rear than they were 3 weeks ago.
Now Wagner goes on a rampage in Russia causing Russia to further weaken their lines to respond. The Rosgvardiya (Russian national guard) can't stand up to Wagner on the battlefield. That's like the Oklahoma national guard (no offense to anyone in the OK NG) going up against the 101st.
Look for the real punch to come from Ukraine soon.
The more I think about this, my confidence level increases that Ukraine co-opted Wagner.

Tired, hungry, killed en masse, suicidal orders.
And now a man claims he's going to fix it internally?
Putin has fricked up multiple ways in this war. But he really let Wagner get too big/ with too much internal power( and popularity with the citizens). And the conscripts who don't want to be on the frontline have a chance for revenge if they join up?
The only thing Putin has going for him are:
A. Nuclear weapons. Though I doubt even he knows the state of most them (can they be fired?)
B. The populace at large who soaks up Russian TV daily.
Putin better hope he can put this down quickly, but with what? Most running military vehicles( that aren't rusted hulks) are probably already in Ukraine. He's going to have to withdraw some RA forces to deal with the Wagner armor coming.
