The Russian Defense Ministry published an urgent appeal. According to them, #Prigozhin's actions gave the AFU a chance for an offensive
"Taking advantage of Prigozhin's provocation to disorganize the situation, the Kyiv regime in the Bakhmut tactical direction is concentrating units of the 35th Marine Brigade and the 36th mechanized brigade of the AFU on the initial lines for offensive actions," the department said.

Wagner chief says Ukraine never threatened to attack Russia

So all Wagner forces have left the front and are heading for Moscow? If that’s true, holy shite! Don’t they hold a pretty significant proton front? If so, the Ukrainian should throw as many brigades in the gap they left ASAP.
I think they had handed off most of what they controlled around Bahkmut and were in the rear.
Speculation from Theiner

quote:
If Prigozhin is truly doing a coup, he will try to take control of Rostov on Don.
Controlling Rostov = cutting off the main supply line to the entire russian army in Ukraine = the army is then Prigozhin's hostage.
When fighting erupts in Rostov - the russian civil war has begun
But then there's this
https://twitter.com/Gerashchenko_en/status/1672363023627956224
quote:
It is reported that Wagner's column has passed the first checkpoints.
They say they are on their way to Novocherkassk, where the army headquarters are. It is also known that a column of 400 vehicles left Millerovo in the direction of Moscow.
I think its just too early and too much fog of war to know yet exactly whats happening.
Two Russian generals have released statements to their troops telling them not to mutiny

First Deputy Chief of GRU Vladimir Alekseyev sat down on the same chair as Surovikin and addressed the commanders and fighters of the Wagner PMC.
You are not putting these people on camera if nothing is happening.
Next General...video at link
https://twitter.com/NOELreports/status/1672356994810822659
quote:
Russian General Sergey Surovikin appealed to the commanders of Wagner PMC and urged them to obey the orders of the President of the Russian Federation.
"I urge you to stop, the enemy is just waiting for the internal political situation to worsen in our country - you can’t give this to the enemy at this difficult time for the country," Surovikin emphasized.
Full translation
quote:
"I have just returned by the order of the Ministry of Defence from the zero line, where our forces, our commanders, our soldiers, volunteers carry out the objective, fighting the superior enemy forces to death, take casualties, but stand on their positions.
I appeal to the leadership, commanders and fighters of PMC Wagner: Together with you, we walked a difficult path. Together with you, we fought, we took risks, we took losses, but overcome together. We are of the same blood. We are warriors.
I call on you to stop. The enemy is waiting for our internal political situation to aggravate. We shouldn’t play into the enemy’s hand in this difficult time for the country."
It needs to be done before it’s too late: to obey the will and order of the people-elected President of the Russian Federation. Stop the columns, and return them to their permanent positions and places of concentration.
To solve all problems with civil means only under the leadership of the Supreme Commander of the Russian Armed Forces.

This is a very serious situation. Surovikin and others would not release statements during the night if this was all a fake.
There is undoubtedly a lot of tense Kremlin officials tonight.

Somebody needs to fark Prigozhin's head onto Lenin's body.

One thing is certain...at this point, this is 100% in Ukraine's favor.
I've seen a lot of chatter and speculation on Twitter that the Free Russia units will align with Wagner for the march on Moscow.
I don't buy that at all.

ISW reported yestarday that GRU spetsnaz were cunducting antipartisan operations in Kursk and Bryansk oblasts. I assumed they were talking about Ukrainian SOF, but if there's an actual homegrown insurgency there, that indicates Wagner may be able to take advantage of a popular uprising.

more Theiner speculation....
Deploying 98% of russia's combat power to Ukraine is now gonna bite putin in the arse... because now inside russia Wagner troops outnumber russian army troops.

They’re talking about the Wagner situation on Fox News right now. Looks like this story has legs. They are saying there’s armored cars patrolling Moscow right now and they even have video. This is just nuts.

THere's the Rosvgardia, but their loyalty may not be certain either.

Maybe the Russians aren’t a bunch of putz’s after all.
Maybe they won’t let themselves be sent into Ukraine to line Putins pockets.
Maybe this is the beginning.

They weren't on the front. That's the only reason that I give them any chance at all. They've been preparing for this.

At the very least this takes Wagner off the chessboard of the war. To date, Wagner has been Russia's most effective force.
Now it looks like the Russian army is going to have to take Wagner on further weakening Russia's combat power.
Here is a bit of a wild thought. Did Ukraine somehow figure out how to co-opt the Wagner chief and he's doing this to help weaken Russia intentionally?
For weeks he's been ramping up his attacks on the Russian MOD. Then today there was supposedly the attack on Wagner troops; however, the ONLY video of that showed very little other than what appears to be a couple of mangled bodies, some blown-up trees, and a couple of small fires.

Not very convincing

I read a post a couple weeks ago asking : if Wagner is a mercenary group, why can’t we just pay them to…attack Russia?
Did the pentagon find a more efficient use of that 6 billion they found instead of more Bradley’s?

This is just nuts.
It is. And it isn't really. We are just seeing the surface level of what is happening. Professionals in the army know that this war is just stupid and hopeless now and just will get a lot more of their soldiers killed. The current oligarchs have lost a lot of income and want this over. The up and coming oligarchs would be happy to see a change of regime in order to have a chance at being big fish. Putin fricked up, badly. I doubt Prigorzhin did this just blindly, he has support behind the scenes. Russia is a crime family and this is what mafia wars look like.

The thing about all of this is that lots of people predicted it ... Eventually. I don't think anyone expected it NOW.
But, yes, the reason that Wagner has a chance is that there are very few Russian MOD forces left in Russia, because they are all at the front.

Prigozhin, via AP Wagner channel, calls for Rosgvardia to join him, or "things will go badly":
"The most promising politician appeals to the National Guard (Rosgvardia) with an offer that is better not refused. Obeying criminal orders and attempting to interfere with the planned campaign of Justice will end badly for employees who have made the wrong choice."

But this is why nobody does mercenaries anymore. This must be the thousandth time in history that mercenaries have turned against the people who hired them.
