Lifelong Republican and voted Trump and I am pro Ukraine so your argument doesn’t hold water. No need to interject politics. I could say Biden is a walking sham President that is not cognitively up to his office on the same frightening level of Dianne Feinstein or John Fetterman but that would have very little relevance with the war. I’ve slipped up and shown my Republican roots before here but regret it every time. You don’t have to be of one particular party to believe in doing what is just the right thing to do.

Here, here and I haven't voted for a Democrat since 1975. So that would have to have been a local election.

It is not the GOP base, but the far left and far right wing nuts who are anti Ukraine. That is a complete mischaracterization.

The Poli Board is a cesspool of partisan hacks. That is why is irritates the shite out of me when they spill over to this thread. They can’t see beyond “Biden Bad”. It’s the Republican version of Orange Man Bad.
I’ve never voted for a Democrat in my life and voted for Trump twice. The far right are a lost cause though.

I said a large portion of the GOP Base. Not the GOP base - that would indeed be an mischaracterization . Nearly every poll out there shows more support on the left for the war effort than on the right, so you can’t waive it away as just the poles of each party. CPAC still represents a large chunk of the GOP base and would give a chilly reception to anyone advocating for a robust nato or need to thoroughly repel Putin in Ukraine.
Like almost everyone in this thread I am also a Republican, or at least I was that remains TBD. It’s what makes it all the more upsetting for me.
But I really don’t want to drag this thread into a political discussion and am sorry for triggering that response.

It's not really that large but large enough to be of concern

I actually think it's good for us to show our cards, so that others know where we're coming from.
My own background is that I got into politics because I was a Christian Conservative. While still an LSU student, I volunteered and helped the conservatives in the Louisiana GOP take control of the state party in 1994 away from the moderates who only cared about their business interests.
In 1995, I started working full time for the state GOP while still a student, and I worked full-time in politics for the next ten years (hence my username).

I am very much with you there. Though I have never voted for a Democrat for any federal office, I want to support a party that stands for freedom at home by protecting the Constitution, and stands for it abroad in the recognition that our ability to keep those freedoms for the long term is greatly affected by how much of the rest of the world shares the values expressed in our Founding.
This war also matters to me because of my Baptist faith. Baptists have always faced significant discrimination in Russia, while Ukraine has espoused religious freedom. Few people know that, in Europe, only the UK has more Baptists than Ukraine, where my theological tribe makes up some 4% of the population.
For example, when Russia took over Luhansk in 2014, all 42 Baptist churches in the region were forcibly closed, the Baptist Hymnal was banned, and the Evangelical Baptist Union was branded a terrorist group. LINK
So, my heart for the suffering of my fellow Baptists, as well as my hope for the spread of the Gospel both cause me to pray for a Ukrainian victory, and that's a big part of the reason that I care about this war as much as I do.

Article by the friend who got me involved with GTL which was to be built in Russian by Ukrainians before 2014 happened.

Now this is quite interesting. I wouldn’t think the Taliban and Iran would be enemies. After all, both a fundamentalist Islamic states. Can anyone shed some light on what’s behind this?

Interesting... How wonder how much of this plays into our country's lack of interest in nuclear power...

They are different sects of Islam.

We were expecting those American weapons that fell into the Taliban's hands to turn up somewhere. I didn't have "pointed at Iran" on my Bingo card

Ah. Ok. That makes sense. I thought both were Shia. It’s hard to tell what part of that world is Shia or Sunni.
(The weirdest things get a down vote here. What is objectionable about what I posted?)

I would have figure same as Iran myself. But when I saw the previous post and realized I was wrong, i then remembered that OBL was hidden hidden and protected by the taliban. OBL was Saudi and they are opposite of Iran Shia vs Sunni.

OBL was Sunni.
Iran is very strict Shi'a

Good point. I’ve always mistakenly sort of put the border between the Sunni & Shia world as the border between Iraqi and Iran. It’s not as simple ad that though.

New Russian recruitment video that is claimed to have just dropped.

From the comments this is the translation, take with a grain of salt as it is reddit.
The difference in production levels compared to Ukraine's recent video is significant, however it is the differences in message and context that I found interesting even if they are delivered for slightly different reasons.
The Ukraine one comes across as a prayer for the nation, and it's soldiers, to give them the strength to take back what they have lost. While not a recruitment video per se it can be construed as one as it fits the role of clarion call very well.
The Russian one is much more focused on "you", all the messaging is based around how the individual is the special one, or what they can get if they join up. While not a bad video it highlighted what I see as the different motivations driving the two sides.

I don’t know the reasoning for the present hostilities, but I do find it interesting timing.
Taliban are majority Sunni and Iranians are Shia. The nuances here are not my specialty. Maybe crazy4lsu will weigh in at some point.

Same but oddly we’d seemingly benefit from Iran being distracted from Ukraine/Russia. Hostilities with Israel cooled here lately, at least from the bigger tit for tat we saw a month or so ago.
