What’s going on in Belgorod?

I’d suggest it may be continuance of shaping operations, prior to Ukraines’ offensive.

Some things we may see in the near future are types of “strikes” or deception operations like raids, feints or demonstrations. Here’s some info on each. 1/6
A raid is a surprise attack for a specific purpose. Raids threaten or destroy a limited objective, kill or capture small groups of enemy soldiers or equipment, free prisoners, or cause movement of the enemy to protect the object of the raid. 2/
Doctrine suggests that raids last “…long enough to accomplish the intent of the objective, [cause confusion or panic in the enemy force] and then the raiding force withdraws….”

A raid surprises the enemy, throws the enemy off their plan, and causes confusion. 3/
Feints are offensive actions that usually require a friendly force to conduct a limited engagement with the enemy.

The desire is to give appearance of an attack or the start of the offensive (prior to the real offensive start) w/o friendly forces being decisively engaged. 4/
Demonstrations (units moving around, appearing like they’re forming for an attack) are a show of force on the battlefield, with a desire to confuse but not make contact with the enemy.

These are usually done as part of deception operations (with smoke, fire, signals, etc). 5/
These are all military plans and actions they usually take place before large offensive operations to confuse the enemy as to where the main attack will occur.

That may (or may not) be a part of what’s happening in Belgorod. 6/6

So much for Zaluzhny being wounded

From Rybar
https://twitter.com/rybar_en/status/1660328815753609216
quote:

???? Schrödinger's Zaluzhny - The AFU Commander-in-Chief finally appeared on video at a conference for Science Day. There were rumors that Zaluzhny was killed or seriously wounded, possibly on May 8 during a Kinzhal strike on a bunker in Mezhirichi.

No, we have no doubts about the authenticity of the video: at first we thought it was some kind of processing through neural networks/face swap. Zaluzhny's speech is on topic, he himself looks unwell, and the blurred background could be an office somewhere, or a hospital ward.

It's strange that there was no announcement of the event, given the media rumors. The video was uploaded yesterday to Odessa Telegram channels, the primary source is the Odessa Law Academy. The rector of the academy, Sergei Kivalov, has been a good friend of Zaluzhny for years.

The video was published on their YouTube channel on May 19, but it is strange that against the backdrop of rumors about the death of Zaluzhny, large Ukrainian media did not distribute it, and this was entrusted to local Odessa nets without much scale.

See, this is the BS I can’t even begin to wrap my head around with how some think.
I can understand some folks with their attempts at explaining that we shouldn’t be sending weapons and such, but making up stuff like this is ignorant.

see past russian actions since the breakup or the USSR:

1st Chechen war - 1994-1996
2nd Chechen war - 1999 - 2000 ( plus another 9 years of insurgency)
Georgia - 2008
add in Russia supporting Azerbaijan over Armenia
2012 Ukraine - Invasion of Crimea and Donesk/Luhansk
2022 invasion of Ukraine

Do we see a pattern.....
Was the US responsible for all of these actions by Russia in former SSR republics.....

Azerbaijan was more of a intervention, but the others all resulted in russia annexing captured former SSR republic's territory

EDIT:

It is Russian actions like this that forced Ukraine to seek ties to the EU/NATO/US ...

EDIT#2:

go back to the USSR days and see the use of Soviet tanks to smash the Hungarian and Czechoslovakian "uprisings" and the later occupation of soviet forces

Oh shite they took Kenner and didn't stop, they got Elmwood, Harahan, and River Ridge and they coming for Metry and Jeff.

The Free Russia Legion's motto should be "The day I can't whoop a man's arse is the day I don't get outta bed".

This conflict never ceases to amaze me. I did not expect to open tOT today to find out some rouge Russians in a handful of vehicles has Russia stealing away tac nukes inside their own damn country.

There are a number of times that some people on this board have pretended that this was a serious account.

This crap spread all over Russian Telegram channels this morning, by the way.

I’m really curious if there is a concrete goal to this incursion other than to embarrass the MOD and sow confusion behind the lines.

It will force Russia to pull more troops to defend border areas such as this, which will leave fewer troops on the front lines in Ukraine to defend against the upcoming offensive.
