So you are saying that NATO invaded Ukraine before Russia did anything? Because that's just a dumb arse thing to claim for numerous reasons

BREAKING: Crude oil prices down 8% to $65, the lowest since 2021
$68 for WTI but Brent is $74. Both are actually specification widgets which actual crude oil is indexed against. Historically Urals traded close to Brent.
Yesterday Urals traded at $49 which is barely above breakeven to pump out of the ground and get to loading terminal. This is a really big deal to Russia's economy since their budget was set on $75 per barrel for this year.

A global recession would end up drying up Ukraine's support, as the US and EU nations would all balk at the cost of aid, when their own citizens are suffering. But it would crush the price of oil and bankrupt Russia, so I'm not sure who would be hurt worse if the global economy were to go south.

The effect would be on public perception not the actual ability to supply Ukraine

From the link below, General Milley comments on the downed Predator....
GEN. MILLEY: So, Dan, on the recovery piece, we know where it landed in the Black Sea. It's probably about maybe 4,000 or 5,000 feet of water, something like that. So, any recovery operation is very difficult at that depth by anyone. That's the first point.
Secondly, is true, we don't have any ships there, but we do have a lot of allies and friends in the area. We'll work through recovery operations. That's U.S. property and -- and we'll -- we'll leave it that at this point, but it probably broke up. There's probably not a lot to recover, frankly.
As far as the loss of anything of sensitive intelligence, et cetera, as normal, we would take -- and we did take mitigating measures, so we are quite confident that whatever -- whatever was of value is no longer of value.

Self destruction of sensitive areas?

Crashing from altitude was the self destruct mechanism. Any data would be heavily encrypted but there’s little chance the Russians can find anything of value left of the drone. It’s not like they don’t already know about them since they have been in use for years now. If they want to take the time to go fish out little pieces off the sea floor let them have at it. They know what we are looking for with those drone flights, they just don’t like it but tough shite. I would send two more up in its place and dare them to pull that shite again. It just shows how threatened they are by us if anything. They won’t do it again though, they don’t want F-35s patrolling the area with the drones.

The only other info I have seen so far, unverified, from twitter:
US military remotely destroyed "confidential software" from a downed MQ-9 Reaper drone.
This was reported by CNN correspondent Natasha Bertrand with reference to sources.

I'm sure they already are and/or have been. They just aren't going risk any real incident with encroaching on any Russian assets in the sky with them.
The USAF definitely has had many aircraft patrolling in the area.

More than likely the only classified thing on the airplane is the software for certain gear. Other than that it’s just some hard drives, modems, antennae, and a camera. If they can wipe it remotely before it crashes there’s nothing really worth looking for.

Much of Bakhmut has been captured and more is being captured as we speak.
They have been capturing Bakhmut for the last 6 weeks. At this point, I'm beginning to wonder if they are doing it by the spoonful.
But hey, just 72 more hours....for the 42nd straight day.

It's been much more than 6 weeks. It's been 9 weeks since BKR came in here and bet me that Bakhmut would fall in 7-10 days.

We should send a few predators with anti aircraft missiles or huge explosives devices and see if they Rusk want to come out to play

Bakhmut tightens a little more.

Here's the latest map from @NOELreports, who does not make up fake maps to promote a pro-Russian viewpoint:
Ukraine is indeed still losing ground, but the situation is not yet dire. I think that they will still hold onto the city center for a few more days and kill some more Wagner.
And I think that needs doing. Prigozhin went on yet another rant today, accusing the Russian MoD of deliberately trying to prevent Wagner from taking Bakhmut. I'll say this for Prigozhin: the man can curse in entertaining fashion.
LINK
One key benefit of Ukraine fighting on in Bakhmut is to remove any future threat of Wagner as an effective fighting force.

I’m not even watching the encirclement. All that matters is that last highway to the south. I know the Ukrainians have one other route that is half road and half cut through fields meant to be a last resort lifeline but you can’t risk losing a lot of equipment in there with armored vehicles coming at a premium for them they can’t risk not being able to pull out with their weapons and vehicles too. I just hope this stand ends up being worth it in the end because it has come at an incredible cost for the Ukrainians. This coming offensive needs to be balls to the wall.
