Presumably Moldova is in range of Ukrainian surface to air missiles.

What a colossal frick up of epic proportions. If a relatively insignificant (and non-NATO) Ukraine is a catalyst for escalation to a World War then who can justify any if it?

Not saying I want it to happen, but wouldn’t be the first time a world war is started over an insignificant action relative to the entire world.

My point was history could be repeating itself and the masters of puppets aren't concerned at all.

Fair enough. I don’t think it’s not concerned at all, I think it’s either a dangerous game of chess where risk is calculated at understood or history repeating is what the right people want and it’s being slow walked into existence.

. Think it was more masochistic than heroic but thank you for the appreciation none the less. As DabosDynasty said the other day just trying to contribute and my timezone was pretty good to tune in, or so I thought until it took the better part of 3 hours...

Speech seems like a nothing burger given the hype, audience, signs in moscow, etc. Seems like a LONG SOTU, not a wartime speech to address the wars present and future. Almost like he was taking an “it’s the economy stupid” approach to solidly support domestically.

Agreed. I tuned in expecting/dreading a double whopper extra pickles with cheese, large fries and a coke and got a toasted ham sandwich with diet coke. Relieved there wasn't something bigger than a long winded economic speech with window dressing of the war/nuclear stuff - he couldn't tout the war more as it isn't going so well and the economy played better.

My news feed says Xi is making a trip to Moscow. Something tells me it's more likely to support Russia than to broker a peace deal.
How likely is it he might want to just say, "hey, why don't you and them keep fighting. Way over there in the west." ?

I agree with him on the sanctions. They have not hurt Russia nearly as much as some predicted. Their GDP loss has been minimal.

The speech did not live up to the hype. Many expected Putin to announce some drastic measures.

I read the speeches focus on economy as the lesser of two problems being more palatable/easier to dress up.

While Russia hasn't crashed as predicted those predictions were always overly optimistic considering that Russia was in a decent position prior to the war with reasonable cash reserves.

Most of the sanctions targeting their energy supply to other nations didn't kick in properly till mid 2022 and since then they have relied on the reserves to prop up the economy as that income dwindled.

Notably he only spoke of improvements up to Q2 of this year. I suspect after that is when the actual bite will come and all the talk of state spending, insuring savings/pension security and citizens keeping money in Russia pointed to their economy starting to falter.

Revision of criminal law provisions about economic rights - state is reviewing situation and crimes should not be ignored but there should not be an excessively punitive approach
- From my cliffs.

This also sounds like getting laws ready to excuse monetary issues in state entities and/or businesses.

And, by use of the Moldavan airport by someone associated with NATO, created an immediate and mortal danger to the Russian state?
Of course, Russia could not stand by and let them threaten the nation with annihilation in this way.
I feel a Moldavan referendum coming on...

Well, WW1 was kicked off by a presumptive heir, not even a sitting head of state, and his wife's murder. The Austria-Hungarian empire wasn't of any grand importance at the time of Franz Ferdinand's assassination either and it sparked a full scale European war.

Yet after that ended with 20 million deaths, we have not learned from it at all.
