The article has interesting details to support it, and Seymour Hersh has broken some big stories.
That said his track record is spotty lately. In particular he came up with a story about Bin Laden that has never seemed to have had much credibility:
More detail on Bin Laden story
The Times article did mention this, and another story that he did that seems difficult to take seriously. At this point I could see him being taken in by a bogus anonymous source. The guy is 85 and no doubt would love to break another big story. But he seems to have been pretty sloppy with the last two attempts.
Bottom line - I don't know whether to believe it or not. The story does make some sense. But Hersh has credibility problems.
ETA - From the article itself:

quote:
The truth, Hersh says, is that Pakistani intelligence services captured bin Laden in 2006 and kept him locked up with support from Saudi Arabia, using him as leverage against al-Qaeda. In 2010, Pakistan agreed to sell bin Laden to the US for increased military aid and a "freer hand in Afghanistan." Rather than kill him or hand him over discreetly, Hersh says the Pakistanis insisted on staging an elaborate American "raid" with Pakistani support.
According to Hersh's story, Navy SEALs met no resistance at Abbottabad and were escorted by a Pakistani intelligence officer to bin Laden's bedroom, where they killed him. Bin Laden's body was "torn apart with rifle fire" and pieces of the corpse "tossed out over the Hindu Kush mountains" by Navy SEALs during the flight home (no reason is given for this action). There was no burial at sea because "there wouldn’t have been much left of bin Laden to put into the sea in any case."

Once hailed “the greatest American investigative reporter”, Hersh’s more recent stories have been called into question. These included articles about how the US found Osama bin Laden and calling into question the use of chemical weapons on Syrian civilians by Syria’s regime, which were criticised for relying heavily on anonymous sources and lacking hard evidence.

Where I’m at. Not as familiar with Hersh but point still remains whether it was him or someone else. When it went down I had us cooperating with obvious candidates to blow them up as a possibility, so this would also be some degree of positive affirmation of my own theory which give me a bias towards I guess.
If it is true, why would someone leak it now?
If it’s not true, why would it be written up this way now?
The 1 year mark and an impending Russian offensive are around the corner. Maybe internal strife in Europe and it was run to show we’ll lead this charge with or without you? But you’d have to think by now the major European powers know the real answer anyway. Idk, just trying to figure the purpose for one or the other.

Creating a rift between the US and Germany, and cutting off Leopards from being supplied to Ukraine would be a pretty good motivation.
Cui Bono - To whom is it a benefit?

If they were going to do this they would have recruited third country commercial divers through a shell corporation with no connection to the US. They wouldn't call up the NDSTC and say "hey, send us a detachment to blow up a Russian pipeline."

Your suggestion would clearly benefit Russia in potential avoidance of tank deliveries and likely galvanizing their populace.

Tanks, personnel. Probably tube artillery.
They certainly are the best trained in that part of the world.

Doesn't Hersh's entire article rest on one anonymous source?
That's not something that I'm ready to believe.

I keep looking everywhere and I can't find anything that corroborates what you're saying.
* I found something. Thanks.

What could have happened was we leaked an easily debunkable story to a reporter with known reliability issues in order to cover up a real operation.

Russia must be trying to ramp things up here lately. The daily Russian losses are Ukraine is claiming are up in both men and equipment. Also seeing an uptic in video on Reddit showing destroyed tanks/armored vehicles and dead troops

Wow. The official Ukrainian press release from today's Zelensky visit to the UK says:
"We have agreed on ... the supply of long-range weapons."
OK, then. The only long-range weapons that the UK has that make any sense are Storm Shadow missiles.
These missiles carry a 990-pound warhead and can travel 350 miles. This is actually a much more powerful weapon than ATACMS. If Ukraine gets 50 of these, the war is effectively over.
I suppose the idea is that they could be delivered at the same time as the planes that would fire them.

"We have a powerful defense package from the UK. We have agreed on a significant number of armored vehicles, the supply of long-range weapons, and also we have agreed to start training Ukrainian pilots. I believe that this is our clear signal - of Ukraine and the United Kingdom - that together we are not just going, but will go all the way to our common victory," Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

350 miles pits Moscow in range……
Sure UK has use restrictions as part of deal.

When this happens I want one of you frickers to look back to my first few posts in thread. Also just a reminder the first bombing was never intended to take the Kerch down and that it featured a cancer riddled truck driver that happily did his part in this war.

Interesting article from the WarZone (TheDrive) on the training aspect of providing Ukraine with F-16s.
It includes comments from US instructors and a Ukrainian pilot.
In short, it will take months to develop a worthwhile and effective force.
WarZone
A related article on the ability of the UK to train Ukrainian pilots. Seems the UK's training pipeline is already stressed and they are sending some to the US.
WarZone again
ETA - added 2nd article.
