Several posters and media reports pointed to it as being primarily symbolic to get things rolling in Europe, the swift changes in stance from Germany this week lends to this in my view as well.

I'd defer to the more experienced posters on how the Abrams would best be utilised in Ukraine, though the general consensus seems there is logistic and environmental issues to overcome to be able to use them effectively.

From a managerial aspect it would make sense that any brigades formed around NATO equipment be as consistent as possible (i.e. Bradleys with Abrams if it was standard doctrine) as the training and logistics are tried and tested and would streamline things, but in such a fluid situation it may not be possible due to time/tactical constraints.

Because we have never used the Abrams in any conflict to test them out...

EDIT: THIS TURNS OUT TO BE A OLDER VIDEO FROM 2019.

Holy cow. Russia really and truly reacquired thirty T-34 tanks from Laos, who had gotten them years before from Vietnam. These are tanks that were manufactured during WWII! Seriously, watch the Russian TV report:

Twitter link

Russia is probably only going to use these antiques in training, but still ... don't believe the clowns who tell you that Russia has thousands of tanks in reserve.

i believe they have thousands in storage, what i dont believe is they have been maintained over the years and can be made ready to run anytime soon.

knowing the russian propensity for corruption, i would imagine these "tanks" have been stripped down for anything that could be sold on the black market and there isnt much left.

Looks to be an old story/video

The top image in the below article from Jan 2019 clearly shows the same tank 721 that is seen in the twitter video at 0:45+

Janes - Russia receives 30 vintage tanks from Laos

Also video in below article from Jan 2019 shows the same spokesman talking from a different angle and several other tanks with the same numbers from Twitter video.

Daily Mail - Russia forced to import T34s for military parades.

Incidentally I did run across another article from 2019 pointing out they bought more T-34's than T-14 Armatas in that year .

The Drive - Russia just imported more T34s than tan they will buy of new T14s

Edit: Clarity/third link.

Thanks. People posting old videos and claiming that they are new is a persistent problem in this war.

The Germans changed their mind after getting their arse gnawed by former COL, 3rd Brigade, 82nd ABD, Lloyd Austin.
After this "conversation" the Germans did a quick about face.

Several of the comments tipped me off, and the spokesman seemed to not being pushing the "Ra-ra-Ukraine is evil" line.

Social media and digital information is a candy box for propaganda and disinformation creators. It's become a very real third front in any conflict after actual combat and politics imo.

Not for nothing, but Russian dress uniforms look like they come from a straight to DVD sci fi flick or something a bellhop would wear in a second rate Vegas hotel in the sixties.

Likely Bellhop or doorman at a luxury high rise residential building.

France could meet Ukraine's demand for fighter jets

France could agree to Volodymyr Zelensky’s demands for fighter jets to defend Ukraine’s skies, the chairman of the French defence committee said on Thursday.
quote:

One of the next steps up in Western military aid would be planes.

Thomas Gassilloud said Paris had conditions on that issue but did not rule out France sending planes to Kyiv in another stepping up of Western support for Ukraine.

“Regarding deliveries to Ukraine, we must study requests on a case-by-case basis and leave all the doors open,” he said after talks in London with his British counterpart Tobias Ellwood and Ben Wallace, the Defence Minister.

"So we will see in the coming weeks what happens next as things are moving fast," he added. "The Danes and Eastern Europe countries are thinking about it."

The conditions are that any donations of aircraft do not undermine French or European security and that they are useful for Ukraine.

The French government could be prepared to offer some of its older generation planes - likely Dassault Mirages - but Paris is aware of the difficulties in training both Ukrainian pilots and the 10 support staff needed for a jet.

The final condition is that president Emmanuel Macron does not judge the deliveries of the fighter jets to be a risk of escalating the war in Ukraine into a war between Russia and Nato.

Defence policy is the responsibility of Mr Macron and his defence council but Mr Gassilloud, a veteran and ally of the French president, is an influential voice outside it.

Kinda shocked them and Sweden arent chomping at the bit to make this happen considering how badly the F35 has dominated export sales over the Gripen and Rafale

Very interesting and logical discussion of tanks and air for Ukraine. BTW, actual money spent by the US is $2.5 to $3 billion, which is stated near the end. Those who don't understand still won't understand because Tucker et al have used Russian propaganda talking points

Wagner Group may finally be running out of meatshields from prisons according to this military journalist.' LINK

Further in the chain, he states merger talks between Wagner and Chechnya have been conducted. They are also trying to Asian migrants into the fold.

The most interesting tweet is his last one:

12/ However, Wagner intends to resist with its usual brutal disciplinary methods: "Wagner's security forces are already saying that termination of the contract to switch to another PMC will be seen as treason, with all its consequences." /end

Don't know how they plan to accomplish that, but interesting to see.

Sounds like Wagner's Prigozhin got duped into depleting his entire company of resources. And now Putin will try to wash his hands of it.

Wagner was useful when it was a war that wasn’t a war. Russia sent non uniformed troops in to Ukraine in 2014. And the fighting since. Wagner not being official Russian army was useful

Wagner losing troops that were not conscripts didn’t count as Russian “losses”

Wagner having convicts and mercenaries, Russians didn’t care that they had losses

Wagner being able to sent “bonsai” waves with high losses allowed for additional conscripts to train

But now that Wagner is spent and the new wave of conscripts are becoming available after some for of training, Wagner no longer serves a purpose. Especially since their pool of new troops is spent
