Ukraine is dependent on the West. That’s true.
But Russia is becoming dependent on Iran and N Korea.

Now who would you want in your corner the West or Iran and NK?

A different than my usual group of talking heads whining about how the Western dirtbags no longer fear Russia. Whose fault is that?

That’s absolutely correct. Russia, more explicitly Putin, is responsible for this war and will be defeated.

While I long for direct action by the West against Putin’s minions, I understand the effect that a military defeat under the name Ukraine will have a much more resounding effect upon the Russian people and their military than a NATO intervention would.

Russia must be defeated, soundly. They are under the illusion that they are a superpower and cannot be defeated.

An emphatic defeat by a Ukraine, even if it is heavily backed by the West, will have a profound effect upon Russian society.

Honestly I hope Ukraine plays the Bakhmut area wisely and does a smart fighting withdrawal. The Russians have leveled the city with artillery so they aren’t gaining too much but Ukraine needs it’s troops, the Russians just see their as cannon fodder. Inflict as many casualties as you can but more than anything make sure you have that garrison and their equipment available to be redeployed to another point on the line. You hate to see them give up ground but I believe Ukraine will do the smart thing with help from our intelligence and not just tell their men to fight to the last man.

Kadyrov and the Chechen Republic need some lessons from LSU on how to make hype videos.

No, not much has been happening lately, because of the weather. When the ground freezes for the winter in a couple of weeks, you'll see more action.

The solution is not to move it to the political board but to ban posters that continually post political garbage in this thread, despite being forewarned. Moving it to the p board would just be a victory for them. Ban them.

The longer this war drags on, the less in favor of Ukraine it is. Besides the hardships imposed on their citizens, they also have to worry about softening support from the US and Europ

It's not like Russia can handle a long war either. With the drop in the price of oil, compounded by the flight of many of its professionals who didn't want to get mobilized, the Russian economy is facing collapse.

The West can afford to help Ukraine pay its schoolteachers, its garbage collectors, and (natch) its military. No one is going to help Russia pay its bills, and there have already been signs of problems.

Ukraine plays the Bakhmut area wisely

Bakhmut is lost and soon the whole eastern front will collapse. The only thing that is left to play out is how long it will take Zelensky and his piano to flee with Ukraine’s riches and how much of those riches go to the big guy. Ukraine never stood a chance and this war will be over in 2 days.

I think we’re heading to a situation where someone is going to have to “be the bigger person” and that won’t be Russia.

That’s why you’re seeing the uptick in armaments being sent to Ukraine. It’s less about actually providing effectiveness on the ground and more about communication to the Kremlin.

Basically telling the Kremlin you better be figuring out how you set your information stage for a DMZ because that’s where you’re heading.

Russia still has a long, long way to go before they take Bakhmut, and Ukraine will make them pay dearly. Continuing frontal assaults as they are doing will cause Russia to lose large numbers of men and equipment. If they could partly encircle the city, they could force Ukraine to withdraw, but so far, Ukraine is not allowing them to do that.

Remember, Bakhmut has very little strategic significance. While Russia is focused on Bakhmut, Ukraine will be taking all of northern Luhansk Oblast and also taking the rest of the South and threatening Crimea.

The cope is string with you. Bakhmut is the key logistical position in the Donbas. Why else would the wise generals in the Russian army and Vlad the Liberator and Uniter spend 6 months attacking it? Do you think that the mightiest military in Europe would spend so much blood and treasure to take it if it was insignificant? Russia gave up its advances on Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odessa and abandoned Kherson to focus on Bakhmut. That should convince you of its importance comrade.
