What the area around Svatove looks like now:

That makes it really hard for any kind of advance there right now. But the ground will freeze in a few weeks, and then, it's game on.

On weapons:

quote:

Turkiye delivered 230-mm MLRS TRLG-230 to Ukraine

The Oryx resource reports that in addition to electronic warfare equipment, 200 MRAP BMC Kirpi, mortars and ammunition, #Turkiye has delivered an unknown number of high-precision TRLG-230 MLRS to #Ukraine

More rocket artillery for Ukraine is very helpful. Turkey started this war trying to stay neutral, but Erdogan can now see that Russia is going to lose this war, and he wants to help the winning side. Baykar is going to build a drone factory in Ukraine, and the new grain deal is basically something that Turkey is imposing on Russia, as Turkey's navy would destroy the remainder of the Russia's Black Sea Fleet in a week.

quote:

BREAKING: Italy will pass a new law on civilian and military supplies to Ukraine that applies through 2023

This is significant, as it means that the Italian government won't need to go to their parliament every time it wants to donate more to Ukraine. They can just do it.

quote:

Luxembourg will send additional High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles (HMMWV) to “strengthen Ukraine in exercising its right to self-defense,” the country’s Defense Minister Francois Bausch said on Nov. 21.

NATO's smallest country is contributing more than its much larger Belgian neighbor. They also announced that they are chipping in some 155mm shells and some drones.

Ukrainian commandoes blew up three helicopter gunships at a Russian military airfield close to the Latvian border, in one of the most spectacular behind-the-lines raids launched by either side since the beginning of the Russia-Ukraine war, multiple sources confirmed on Tuesday, Nov. 1.

"the saboteurs entered the territory of a particularly important military base, went unnoticed to the helicopter parking lot, installed four explosive devices, that is, wasted some time, set a timer and also left the territory of the air base unnoticed.”

One thing that has been very conspicuously absent in this war has been any kind of action from Russia's special forces behind the lines.

If NATO and Russia were going at it, the US and NATO Special Forces would be feasting in Russia's rear. Evidently, Russia sucks at Special Forces too.

Two days of shelling caused widespread damage to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) on November 20 and 21.

The Russian government is continuing to increase its control of the Russian information space as a Russian milblogger noted that Russian efforts to shape the information space “look like a kitten against a rhinoceros” compared with foreign “think tanks,” non-profit organizations, and “independent media.”[6

The Russian Federal State Security Service (FSB) additionally took steps to codify control over the information space and signed a decree on November 4 that approved a list of military and military-technical activities, which if received by foreign sources, can be used against the security of the Russian Federation.

Both the proposed Duma bill and the FSB decree indicate that the Russian government is scrambling to take control of the information space as it is increasingly inundated by criticisms of the Russian military that are levied both internally and externally.

Ukrainian intelligence reported that Russian special services are planning false flag attacks on Belarusian critical infrastructure in an attempt that would likely fail to pressure the Belarusian military to enter the war in Ukraine.

A Ukrainian official acknowledged on November 21 that Ukrainian forces are conducting a military operation on the Kinburn Spit, a location which would allow Ukrainian forces to better conduct potential operations on the left (east) bank in Kherson Oblast.

The November 18 video of a Russian soldier opening fire on a group of Ukrainian servicemen while Russian troops were surrendering has served as a catalyst for further division between the Kremlin and prominent voices in the Russian information space.

Latest Defence Intelligence update on the situation in Ukraine - 22 November 2022

On 18 November 2022, multiple Russian and Ukrainian media outlets reported that an attack took place at an oil terminal in Novorssiysk port on Russia’s Black Sea coast. A major base of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet (BSF) is close to the oil terminal.

The BSF relocated many of its submarine operations to Novorssiysk after its Sevastopol base in occupied Crimea was struck by Ukraine over the summer. Russian commanders will likely be concerned about threats to the Novorssiysk-based amphibious landing ship flotilla.

These vessels are relatively vulnerable without escorts and have assumed a more important role in supplying Russian forces in Ukraine since the Kerch Bridge was damaged in October.

Full details of this incident are yet to emerge. However, any demonstration of a Ukrainian capability to threaten Novorssiysk would highly likely represent a further strategic challenge for the BSF. It would also further undermine Russia’s already reduced maritime influence in the Black Sea.

Because everyone knows, a ground war in the winter time in that part of the world is a recipe for success.

It’s a smaller version of the MQ-9 predator drone. It has a big arse camera on it and can launch Hellfire missiles and drop bombs. It’s a long endurance platform but is incapable of flying in bad weather and very susceptible to anti-air weapons systems. It will have very limited utility during the Ukrainian winter.

I don't know what you mean by that. Obviously, both sides will have to fight in the winter. My point is simply that the mud, the rasputitsa as it's called in Russian, is a time when neither side will be able to do much. But then, the ground will freeze, and offensive operations will be possible.

Thank you. That’s exactly the type of response I hoped for.

Wonder why it’s being pushed now then? Prep for spring/summer by the time they’d be approved and delivered?

They can’t even properly equip their forces with tires on their military vehicles nor armor; there’s no way they will be fighting two wars on two different fronts
