I thought Russia tried that but it didn’t work out well for them. All BS aside, outside of nuclear weapons, Russia is a paper tiger and now the world knows it.
It was an attack to attack not occupy

Kyiv doesn’t win the war or provide anything resourceful other than an added insurgency war against the Russians.

You will probably respond glibly but think it through.
Why would Russia want Kiev? What would it mean, politically and symbolically? Or rather, having Kiev, what could the Russians demand of the Ukrainians? In WWII, why was Paris declared an open city during the German Invasion and why did the Nazi's only capitulate once they were sure Berlin was lost?

Okay so more than likely, Zelensky moves to Lviv with his green shirt and says that Ukraine will not surrender to Russia and demands more aid. Russia going anywhere west of Kiev will definitely draw more NATO backlash being that he is on NATO’s doorstep now and not on Russia’s. Russia has extended the war in to unfriendly territory and gotten much further to a conflict with NATO.
ALL OF THIS EFFORT JUST FOR KIEV, sounds pretty smart to me.

I honestly think Russia thought this would’ve been over in a couple weeks, just like the rest of the world thought at the time. Now almost 7 months later and probably at least 40 thousand KIA from Russia, what’s the point? The world now sees what Russia is really about, which means if it’s military against western military, not so good for Russia. God forbid it comes to nuclear weapons, but if it does the borders in Europe won’t matter much for us over here in the USA.

I thought Russia was supposed to Balkanize when McDonald’s left in March?

If Kupyansk has fallen, Russia is in a world of hurt in that region.
