would suggest the target was another ammunition train as the explosions are spread out in a line over 100-150 meters.

May not have been an actual train but just where they unloaded it off the train. This footage just shows where they just moved it off the train.

Yes, that may be even better with all those Grad vehicles stored alongside.

A regular reconnaissance mission is normally conducted by a small group of soldiers who attempt to collect intelligence on the enemy while remaining undetected and then going back to friendly lines to report on what they’ve seen.

A reconnaissance in force is usually conducted by a fairly large unit that is capable of conducting fairly large scale combat operations while on its “recon mission,” then normally returning to friendly lines to report on what they’ve seen.

If you’ve seen Lone Survivor that would be an example of a regular reconnaissance mission, at least up until the point where they got caught and had to fight it out.

The “Thunder Runs” on Baghdad conducted by the US Army in the invasion of Iraq could be considered reconnaissance in force. I believe they just made a movie about that on Netflix or something.

British Defence Intelligence
UPDATE ON UKRAINE 16 August 2022
INTELLIGENCE UPDATE

The surface vessels of Russia's Black Sea Fleet continue to pursue an extremely defensive posture, with patrols generally limited to waters within sight of the Crimean coast. This contrasts with heightened Russian naval activity in other seas, as is typical for this time of year.

The Black Sea Fleet continues to use long-range cruise missiles to support ground offensives but is currently struggling to exercise effective sea control. It has lost its flagship, MOSKVA; a significant portion of its naval aviation combat jets; and control of Snake Island.

The Black Fleet's currently limited effectiveness undermines Russia's overall invasion strategy, in part because the amphibious threat to Odesa has now been largely neutralised. This means Ukraine can divert resources to press Russian ground forces elsewhere.

Russian media report new explosions on military airfield near Simferopol in Crimea
Tuesday, 16 August 2022, 13:37

The Russian mass media report of clouds of black smoke over the military airfield in the village of Hvardiiske, Simferopol district of Russian-occupied Crimea.

Source: Kommersant publication with reference to local residents, Christo Grozev, head of Bellingcat on Twitter

Details: Local residents also confirm that clouds of black smoke are seen above the airbase in Hvardiiske.

According to them, several explosions were heard earlier on the territory of the military base.

According to the source, local military departments and law enforcement agencies assume it could be an attack by a small unmanned aerial vehicle that hit an ammunition storage.

Grozev claims that 12 SU-24M and 12 SU-25SM aircraft were at the airbase. The airfield was part of the Russian Naval Forces.

Podolyak on explosions near Dzhankoi: Demilitarization of Crimea in action
16.08.2022 10:47

Today's explosions near the town of Dzhankoi in Russian-occupied Crimea are the demilitarization of the peninsula.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to the head of the President's Office, said this on Twitter, Ukrinform reports.

"Morning near Dzhankoi began with explosions. A reminder: Crimea of normal country is about the Black Sea, mountains, recreation and tourism, but Crimea occupied by Russians is about warehouses explosions and high risk of death for invaders and thieves. Demilitarization in action," Podolyak said.

WTF is Podolyak? Is he Ukrainian or Ruskie? It's not said who he is and the message here is cryptic if not poetic.

Yep, Podolyak is speaking directly to the people of Crimea there.

It was something to report about. This is the Crimean Department of Tourisms new way of letting the public know that the beaches are open. That way the Russian tourists can get the most enjoyments from the beaches as possible before the Ukrainian military uh I mean winter arrives.

On a serious note, the WSJ is reporting that these explosives were from saboteurs. They occurred in a storage area in a military rail yard. I can understand saboteurs hitting trains out on the lines in between cities, but how do they hit inside a military rail yard? Are the Russians that bad at security that they can’t protect their own storage areas from the enemy or improperly discarded cigarettes?

So here is a video that suppsedly shows how close passenger trains pass by the rail yard. Seems insecure if the video is legit.

One could almost toss a lit cigarette and start an explosion. Maybe these Russian excuses are actually true.

Since Belarus is probably off limits to HIMARs and Ukraine is having to ration its USSR era SAMs that are capable of intercepting cruise missiles; I hope those NASAMs get delivered before that missile attack begins. I would imagine that most of the missile will hit residential structures to cause as much terror and death as possible because that is how the Ruskies roll.

So are these additional domestic forces you think? They’ve had such trouble generating forces for Ukraine but now have them to station in Belarus, potentially to enter the fighting? Ukraine did just hit some targets in Belarus a week or so ago.

Interested if this additional front goes as the last attempt. They keep repeating the same mistakes.
