Interested if this additional front goes as the last attempt. They keep repeating the same mistakes.

Russia should have never attempted that front in hindsight, although if they had captured Kyiv this war would probably be over. Instead they should have just kept a large force on the border threatening to attack in order to tie down a large portion of the Ukrainian military in the North so Russia’s objectives in the East and South could have been accomplished much quicker.

Maybe that's what they are getting ready to do.

In the 6 months since the war has started Ukraine has gained over 500+ modernized Soviet tanks either from capturing Russian tanks or from NATO countries donating their tanks. Ukraine has also activated and fully trained over half of its 900,000 reserve force. Ukraine can now move enough forces around to defend against a northern axis invasion without weakening any of their forces on the other axises. Plus the Ukrainians military has lost its fear of the Russian military. It's a little too late for that now. The time to put a force on the Ukrainian and Belarusian border to tie down Ukrainian forces was 6 months ago not now.

Unless Russia is trying to force Belarus into the war by forcing the Ukrainians to start launching HIMARs into Belarus to take out those weapon stores this move is just a way to launch their missile systems in range of the civilian population of western Ukraine.

In April, some were complaining how forces in Ukraine's NW were gearing up with the incoming weapons/munitions/supplies even though there wasn't enough transportation to get it all to the east.

Now they are geared up for anything from the North.

The most ground taken by Russia was in the South. Natural barriers stopped the advance to Odessa. Mariupol's "Alamo" kept troops from that area from taking more ground to north.

Ok I'm looking but not seeing anything on this. Belarus is the hub for the East so large troop movements and supplies would not be uncommon to see.

It may be Belorus forces and not Russian. I don't that they have to stomach to invade or even defend if invaded

If Russia had just ignored the "Nazi Azov" battalion and cutoff and bypass Mariupol it could have used its southern forces to push further north to Dnipro. If Russia had captured Dnipro then Ukraine would have been cut in half and the Ukrainian military would have been stuck in the east. However, Russia choose to throw everything at the Azov battalion in Mariupol and bought the Ukrainians time and was a huge morale booster. I don't think it is possible to define exactly how big the Azov Battalion's stand in Mariupol was for the outcome of this war.

A record breaking number of Russians are crossing the Crimea bridge into Russia

38,297 cars transited along this route yesterday alone, as Ukraine warns that more strikes on Crimea's infrastructure and military installations loom

Damn almost 40,000 cars yesterday. If those cars are carrying 2 adults that is at least 75,000 Russians fleeing Crimea yesterday. That is more than just tourists looks like the locals are running too.

So this is were I think the "They want to be Russia" numbers get inflated. Are there those in Crimera who want to be part of Russia and are headed to Russia right now, for sure. But there see also those who don't want to be part of Russia and don't have any other direction to flee

Electric substation on fire in Crimea. Does Crimea's Entergy have a SMOKING RIDER on their bills?

I wonder if this is in any way connected to Russia trying to connect the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant to Crimea.

2014 residents. Crimea is going to be an interesting place to watch. Some chatter that the resistance is actually led by ethnic Russians (Crimean by birth) and the Tatar community.

I'm betting it's some of the 1.5 million Russians who were persuaded to move to Crimea over the last 8 years. Presumably those ppl have family in Russia that they can go stay with and they are getting out while they can. The people in Crimea who were from Crimea and were Ukrainian citizens but then became Russia citizens probably have nowhere to go.

Read on twitter that the Crimean railway was recently electrified. If true it may explain why the substation was targeted.

Ukrainian defenders inflicted a significant blow to the rail network in Russian-occupied Crimea. As a result of the strike near Dzhankoy, trains must terminate at Feodosia.

Logistics for the Russian fascist invaders in Crimea, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson are now more difficult.

That means that Russia who could barely move supplies 40 kms from its railheads to the front lines efficiently has to try to figure out how to move supplies 400 km from its railhead to the front lines.
