Don't know, but I suppose using it for fuel oil might be an energy option if they get desperate (again, much dirtier than they'd like, but beats freezing). Still, wouldn't have the petrochemical properties of gas they want for industry, though.

I cant speak to the civilian side and honestly dont care. But the uniform personnel at the Pentagon are fully behind the President and Joint Chiefs policy regarding Ukraine and Russia.

What are German relations with African oil producers like Nigeria and Algiers
There are already pipelines across the sea to Spain, but those don't connect north. Spain has several LNG terminals but they also do not connect northward.
Nigerian shipment of oil via sea have shifted from the West to China over the last few decades. It was all going to Europe and USA 20 years ago.
Nigeria has a giant refinery coming online this year, one of the largest in the world, along with the large fertilizer complex opened last year. Its target market was Africa, but who knows.

How the heck is Russia going to shift its pipelines or replicate Westbount to Eastbound in a year or two?
Without the European market, Russia is screwed. We need to remember that it is pretty much a landlocked nation.

Britain sending another aide package.
-20 M109 self propelled 155 howitzers
-36 L119 105 mm field guns
-1600 more anti tank weapons
-50,000 152 mm rounds for Ukraine’s Soviet made howitzers
I’ve been wondering why we haven’t sent more 105 mm guns. We should have those in a pretty abundant supply as they were the main howitzer rounds in Western countries for a long time. I know the M777 155 mm guns are preferable but they need quantity in any way they can get it.

A lot of those old artillery tubes must have been worn out by now. I guess that Ukraine has replacement tubes in stock for the 152mm old Soviet weapons?
Posted on 7/21/22 at 6:05 pm to CitizenK
That or they are just using the ones still functional. I know the Russians are having hell from their tubes being worn out. There’s a YouTube channel that broadcasts intercepted Russian soldier calls back home and several have complained that their artillery is terrible and they measure the misses in kilometers not meters with a lot of rounds firing well short and falling into Russian lines and trenches taking their own guys out.

Britain also sending counter-battery radar systems and hundreds of drones and loitering aerial munitions in its aide package to Ukraine.

And without Russian energy Europe is screwed. My only point was they can’t live cut off in the short term because they really don’t have a viable alternative that doesn’t result in blackouts and industrial contraction. They both need each other.
Question is, which one can reconfigure quicker? Europe developing new energy sources/suppliers for 40% of its energy? Or Russia’s ability to sell to other buyers which may be the only way O&G is freed up from other sources to export to Europe as replacement?

Even with no regs (like Russia has any, their Soviet era pipeline leak all the time) and Chinese help, it will take several years to build out pipelines to the east.
The Siberian pipelines could go to the north near where the Gulf Stream ends and ice free most of the time, but the sea route is all the way around Europe if Suez Max tankers used for oil. Natural gas is a different ballgame altogether. Loss of cost advantage over LNG and Russia has little LNG capacity. Pipelines are always better.
Meanwhile sanded up wells will need to be reworked which also costs money.
IMO, the best thing is for Russia to stop all of this nonsense immediately especially for Russia. Russians seem to be nothing but hardheaded lacking in logic

FTR, after watching some Russian State TV, the Russian public makes Q believers look like rocket scientists. If they believe half of the state propaganda, they are really that stupid

One thing we haven't heard anything about is the Switchblade drones on the battlefield.
There have been a couple of videos but really not much footage has emerged. I wonder if they are junk?

Decent for smaller, lightly armored vehicles, like trucks. No bueno against a tank or bmp.

Kind of like ISIS drew islamic radicals from around the world to live in the (temporary) caliphate, it would be really nice if all the Q types and freakshows awaiting the Rapture etc went to Russia since they seem to think Russia is some Shangri-La. Instead they're settling down in Utah to wait for the Rapture and/or JFK Jr, which is appropriate because outside of skiing it's known for an absurd reactionary pseudo-religion and hucksters defrauding people in mineral investments. ... kind of sounds like Russia when you think about it.
