Gotta believe the Emir of Qatar has plans for Bashar.

If I were Mr. Assad I would have my affairs in order. With his protector gone there will be a long line of people and organizations waiting for a crack at him.

And the buildup in Syria can afford to be measured, the Russians arent coming back anytime soon.

Yea. It what he and Russia like to do. It’s also what made Obama piss himself and attempt to redraw his line in the sand with Assad.

Outside of the Kurds getting involved and attempting to police a civil war between 2 sides that hate us made no sense.

You mean the civil war that we and Israel started by arming Islamic radicals? Are you Christian by any chance? I love the American Christians that advocated for our actions in Syria since Syrian Christians bore a significant portion of the brunt of the "civil war". They got a good taste of American democracy and freedom. They got it good and hard.

What a great question. It’s my understanding after watching the impeachment/witch-hunt hearings there was competing motives for the largess, but who knows?

The first sign of regime change in Damascus will be Assad flying to Russia for consultations. Long consultations, accompanied by his extended family.

For once I agree with you on something. Russia never invaded if someone like Trump or Reagan is in office because the Russians feared them and what they might do in response. With our current leadership they know we won’t do anything beyond sending munitions and they are even walking that back now.

So what "would" Trump and Reagan do that we aren't currently doing? Send in troops?

I'm sure he will be fine, with the worst army in the Arab world (let that sink in) and all that outdated Russian military "equipment" protecting Damascus he will be fine.

Run to daddy. Daddy may have to run to him.

Syria sent some of their finest to fight with their Russian bros, once they were able most tried to surrender so the Russians sent most of them back.

I think Biden could be holding the rest of Western Europe far more accountable than he has been as this conflict has the potential to hurt them more than us just due to geography. It seems like it’s basically just us and Britain that are supplying 95% of the weapons Ukraine needs when countries like Germany, France and Italy among others could be contributing more than they are. We can’t strip our entire heavy artillery and rocket systems bare while other countries send 3 or 4 pieces like France with their CAESAR systems and Germany with their PHZ2000. He could also make sanctions on Russia even harder if he truly wanted to in order to devalue the ruble further but it just feels all half measured to me.

we need to draw a redline, either you supply or we stop supplying and are not honoring our nato committment.

sorry but this cant keep going on, europe doesnt get to have every fricking social program in the world but also get the security of us protecting them. they have to pay their share of the cost plain and simple.

i wouldnt go as far as sir winston in that europe is our biggest threat but they are a huge threat. We are bank rolling them and its hurting us as a country.

frick everyone but the brits. rest can eat the russian dick as far as I am concerned if they do not want to stand up and spend what they committed to.

if they dont care about their own defense, why should I? honestly i felt like that about ukraine and the only thing that has changed my mind is I see an opening to destroy a huge geo political foe in russia (who shouldnt even be a foe and should be a friendly but europe fricked that up too)

No, the thing is Russia knew Reagan and Trump would respond decisively. I believe they thought of Biden as another Carter or another Obama who would do nothing but give a speech.

It's not that I disagree with the substance of these statements. It's just that ignores many of the details of our involvement in Western Europe. We haven't been "defending" them entirely out of altruistic motives. We wanted to dominate Europe militarily. Letting Western European nations spend heavily on social programs was part of the deal that they received in return.

Yes, this arrangement hurts our country. It doesn't hurt our imperial status.

Personally, I think it causes more harm than good, which is why I made the country vs. imperial status distinction.

I suppose supporters of the status quo would point to the usual stability, market access, peace, commerce, etc., arguments.

Well, so far, it's been a different outcome than Libya.
