As I said the prices need to go higher before someone such as myself returns.
They clearly aren’t high enough yet

Only reason I really see is if you like concerts you can hit up several in a one weeks time.

A lot of whining about Vegas here.
I visited Vegas last month and am going back next month. Food, drink, and fees can be high but that’s the price of admission. Also Vegas is still crowded, maybe not to capacity but it’s not dead either. Higher prices weed out the poors and riff raff. It is expensive, and many people don’t mind that. If you don’t want this, then go to your local casino with $5 blackjack and equivalent dining options. If you like to gamble at higher limits, Vegas still has a lot to offer.
And whoever said that there are no comps anymore is not correct.

Agree.
The Sphere was an awesome experience.
I dont care about gambling, and Vegas is ok, but not top-tier, IMO.
Vegas does have great shows, and excellent venues for those.

This is the most hipster take yet. Everyone should go to Vegas to get that authentic off strip experience.
So I listed all the attractive things in the area and why it is a great area that has literally something for everyone, and the response is, "you're a hipster" just bc you cant go to a city and think for yourself. This whole thread is people whining about prices in a single small area but missing all there actually is to do. Cool thread. The average poster in this thread probably does 1 trip a year.

Gambling, fake tits and glitz got old

If you watch this video - this is why international tourism is dead. This is what people outside of America see - why would anybody want to vacation in an America that looks like this?
Also, I just heard that the hotels/casinos installed sensors on the mini bars in rooms and if the sensor goes off because someone opens the refrigerator’s door, they get charged $50

Just went for the first time in July. The only thing that surprised me was how high the minimums at the table were. I expected to spend a lot of money for the few days my wife and I were there. We had a great time. I’d rather deal with high minimums than gamble with retards and people smoking from their tracheostomy tube.

You don’t get charged just for opening the mini fridge.

I met with some of our restaurants in Las Vegas last week and this discussion came up. Sales are down for them, especially on the strip. The general consensus from those business owners is that it is primarily due to the cost of Vegas and the nickel and diming (resort fees, parking, meal costs, lack of comping), while general economic conditions and competing markets/venues for tourism dollars are a lesser but still noticeable impact.
That is just their take but it seemed reasonable to me.

I went back in the late 90s when Vegas still had a little "old Vegas" in it. It was better back then.

If all this is true (which I highly question), it’s very clear, the message Vegas is pushing is they want a higher end client on the strip. Right or wrong. It’s like going to an island and complaining that you pay $20 for a pina colada. Don’t like it, don’t go.

100% agreed. And what you said about keeping the riff raff out is very true.
I still like going, but typically very short trips.

Why would anyone open a bar tab at Vegas casino? I was there recently, did most of my gambling at Venetian and Wynn. Had a cocktail waitress approach me for a drink orders within a few minutes each time. $2 tip per drink and you’re good to go.

This. Just belly up to a bar with video poker. Put in $20 and start playing as the bartender walks by. Tip him $5 and you’re drinking free for as long as you’re there while actually giving yourself a chance to win. Life isn’t hard.

quote:While that's kind of shady business, $300 all in for a night at the Bellagio is not bad.
Stayed at the Bellagio for a few nights in June….room rate was $199/night which is not bad for the hotel, however, the resort fee was an additional $55 per night. After the fee, parking, and taxes it was around $100 a night more than advertised.

Only time we go to Vegas is when I need to see a specialist doctor. Prices too high, derelicts everywhere especially Freemont St. 1 1/2 hours south of Vegas on the Colorado river is Laughlin Nv. There are 8 casinos, 7 of them on the river. Tables are cheaper than Vegas, drinks are free as long as you gamble. Great steak houses, rent a boat and play on the river.
And some big names in concert there, a little something for everyone.

Vegas has turned into a city dependant on conventions and events. If you're there for a convention, food/lodging is already baked in to the cost. The event prices are ridiculous and that's where they're taking a hit. I priced going to a hockey game there a couple of years ago and even the nosebleeds were double the cost of a upper deck ticket elsewhere. The same for WrestleMania and Raiders games.
The big difference between the two is that the tourism bureau is getting their money from tickets and having to use it to bribe companies like TKO to run their show there. In the end those fees are a zerosum for the tourism bureau but what it does is bring in loads of money to the resorts/hotels, restaurants, and everything at LAS.

You can still do Vegas cheap. There are casinos that fit all price ranges.
