I like the idea of some form of green ground cover. Maybe a couple of Hydrangeas depending on how much sun they'll get. I'd try for something no one else has in your hood tho, regardless. I also like the idea of wooden rockers to replace the chairs. Nice house BTW.

No...these don't do that well in Austin area.

Good god, not in Austin area.
The soils and climate in Austin area are a lot different than in Louisiana and even Houston. And I am guessing Round Rock has water restrictions like every place else in Texas. You can probably only water 1 time per week and those restrictions will eventually be 1 time per month....especially in the Austin area. Best to design with drought tolerant adapted or native plants.

Correct, suggest native plants or those that can handle a beating from the sun and a few freezes like double knockout roses.

The trick to get around the water restrictions is to use soaker hoses on automatic timers.

There is a disease starting to kill Knock Out Roses. I am advising clients not to use them. Knock Outs have been over planted and so nature will take care of that.

Small to medium variety Encore Azaleas. They bloom several times all summer and give a nice show of color.

You need about 3 emerald arbor vitae in the rear, put a row of foster holly in front, maybe 4, then knock out rose bushes with verigated monkey grass at sidewalk edge. Thank me later with a pic!

Italian cypress on the sides of the entrance and the two corners.
