Anybody know the company that makes the railing when sections need to be replaced?

Rather than wait to buy salvaged scrap when it collapses, I'd rather get my hands on a few segments now for either a backyard project or an indoor foyer balcony.

I'm sure I could get a local welder to construct something similar, but I want to see if the business that has the contract can give me a better deal.

For those who haven't noticed and might also be interested:

Those crossed pistols are the reason that bridge is still standing and hasn't been taken down. This could be a rumor, and if so...it's a rumor that's been held onto for a LONG time.

Personally being from Sulphur...I'd love to get a section of 3 of those crossed "Lafitte Pistols". Would make a great art piece in the living room!

Pistols that have been damaged or broken , to be replaced, are being re-cast by a foundry in Alabama.
That’s all I know

They should put that on the market in Lake Charles. They'd buy that stuff up like crazy.

I like it but will probably get in a wreck checking it out if I ever cross that bridge again.

Pops has one hanging in his living room too. There may have been a night long ago when a few old geezers got drunk and decided to take a cordless sawzall out and get three sets.

Fleurty Girl sells the cast iron crossed pistols. My girl friend's sister in Metairie has a pair hanging over her fireplace.

The ones at Fleurty Girl are supposedly cast from the same molds as the Calcasieu River Bridge guns.

Environmental issues are a large factor. A few years there was a large EDC spill nearby in the Calcasieu River.

With the ongoing construction on the I-210 bridge, the probabilities are likely if you linger, yes.

Then again if you get caught up in routine delays you can get a good look.

my old boss did a rehab on the 190 bridge in the 80's. i can't remember if it had the pistols or something else similar but i remember him saying the entire railing was removed and replaced. at first they were scraping the sections of railing. at the end of the job so many people wanted the railing they were selling it for cash...

My dad was with LA DOTD in BR for 40+ years and crossed that bridge over 1000 times when out there at the weigh scales on 10.
He always wanted one of those sections He always told his guys working the scale and driving it daily in their Marked Weights and Standards Cars(now DPS) that if they ever rolled up on a wreck that involved the barrier, to stop and see if any broke off. He offered a case of beer and $20 as a reward. But never happened.

I'm sure this is obvious to most of y'all so far but the history and the reason for that design go back to the area's popularity as a Pirate's Cove of sorts where privateers like Lafitte and co would retreat to when the heat was on them for pirating. Anyhoots pretty cool stuff. Hadn't thought about those pistols in years.

That's so dumb it's most likely true.

There was a FOIA request that showed the leak from 1994 is no longer a reason to delay the new bridge.

The person who has these had a family member who was a huge Civil War collector. May have been one of those geezers as I know they used to dig up civil war battle sites, so a bridge railing and a sawzall would have been no big deal!

LC Bridge rated 6.6 out of 100

Just take them off the railing after the bridge collapses.

The 190 bridge in Baton Rouge used to have fleur de lys on the railing
