But they issued a permit for this to happen yesterday

quote:

Happening at Lake Charles Civic Center: Protesters gather in a peaceful demand calling for the confederate statue to be removed. The Calcasieu Police Jury will ultimately decide if the statue stays or goes.

The statue is irrelevant to why this bothers me. It bothers me that people and businesses had to alter their plans and/or close but this is OK? Either it's all OK or none of it is OK. They can't keep taking away people's livelihoods then let this happen and rub it in people's faces.

But for those curious here is the statue they are protesting because it's on courthouse property.

My favorite comment is this one because it's obvious she has never even paid attention to the statue as she states this "person" doesn't deserve to be honored when the statue doesn't actually single out any one person. People are mad and not even sure what they are mad at.

Either close it all or close nothing. This idea that covid is woke af so protesting is fine is just absurd.

Open it all, wear masks, social distance, and keep old/vulnerable people isolated.

They’re all wearing masks and the right to peacefully protest is a protected right.

Also...Lake Charles beaches

When the government starts telling people they can't protest the government then we have real problems.

Mostly but they are silent. It was a Dem judge that started the statue argument and we have a first-term mayor that is weak.

That’s what I figured. It’s why the silent majority nonsense is worthless.

Whether one agrees with it or not, the current state of jurisprudence from SCOTUS gives higher protections to speech, especially political speech, than it gives to economic interests.

Yeah. This is where I’m at.

Also surprised that statue didn’t come down back when Mitch was taking down NOLA statues. It calls defenders of the confederate states “our heroes”. Good feeling that one will be coming down.

Exactly. LDL is laying off over 400 people in Lake Charles because they are still being forced to operate at limited capacity.
