You got any CRM experience and a secret clearance?

Unfortunately no. Could learn the CRM piece and should have no issue getting the clearance but not sure anyone would want to wait for it to process.

My fedgov background is web development Drupal and WordPress) and public trust clearance.

What skillset do they bring to the table?

Have you dealt with low level fed employees?

DEI is real.

People are surprised low iq unskilled lazy government workers can’t find private sector employment?

They can probably spell single syllable words correctly.

Private employers probably aren’t chomping at the bit to hire the average useless 9-4 federal employee with one hour lunch break government mentality.

Uhhhh….you may want to research the 1990s

Something like 500,000 defense dept workers were laid off as Cold War ended. They were absorbed with ease by tech sector.

Steve Jobs once said that defense dept layoffs were one of the main reason Silicon Valley boomed

Automotive, which was DEI before DEI was cool, made a conscious decision to pass on those laid off defense engineers and techs that built the tech industry. I was there personally at one of the former Big Three in an executive level company-wide hiring strategy offsite meeting.

The discussion centered around putting together a list of premiums over baseline to pay for, say, a female Hispanic engineer or a female black engineer, by degree type and level. You can guess who the baseline rate was applied to. HBCU engineers also brought a premium. The US Big Two + halfbreed Stellantis are still paying the price for the brain drain they induced in the 1990's through the early aughts.

As an 18 year still employed(thankfully) Fed, I can confirm that MOST of our skills are not transferrable to the private sector.

My neighbor is a laid off federal worker. Used to brag about doing nothing. They were given days off often for no reason. He would work a few hours each day pushing paper. Was happy to accept the lay off package, because of course, he is a fully disabled vet. Now, can't understand why he can't find a job with no skills.

I assume there are thousands with the same story

So people employed in the one sector that is always on the cutting edge of technology for as long as humans have lived, warfare, were able to find jobs more easily than non-technology focused civil bureaucrats who have done virtually nothing but sort paperwork their entire careers? I’m shocked.

Cuts are across the board. DoD is losing plenty.

Because God forbid the government separate the wheat from the chaff. Could you imagine the carnage?

I would imagine the vast majority of government workers are legitimately unemployable in the private sector.

Yea Bell Labs imploded, the big defense contractors went from like 58 competitive companies to a dozen bloated and still merging ones with smaller budgets.

All those top people graduating and those who left the DoD, Nasa, and the defense industry were grabbed by all the startups.

They grabbed the best.

Nobody wants to hire anyone b/c they all think they can AI or robot away every single fricking job that exists.

Making fun of laid off government workers is dumb b/c these fire happy fricks are coming for all of us in the end.

This!

I do heavy construction project management. I just finished up at the large PLNG project in Plaquemines Parish.

I got my young nephew on as a low level fiber optic helper.

He made 126k last year as the lowest level helper out there. Did he work a shite of ton hours? Yep. But, there is money to be made if you’re willing.

Now, after he acquired this experience, he just accepted a position with The Boring Company and is moving to Nashville for 3-4 years while they build the Nashville Loop.

This kid barely graduated high school and had probably never heard of fiber optics 3 years ago.

It’ll be better for them once they decide to learn how to work. The construction and farming opportunities are picking up as we speak

Yep . Then if they are hiring, the conditions are prohibitive. Jobs for people with Secret Clearances are tough to come by unless you have Level III certifications like a CASP or CISSP. TS/SCI jobs are still out there but not anywhere close to levels of 3 years ago, but they are mostly in the DC / Maryland area and in Colorado and CA
