Lafayette…Best place to live in Louisiana
Can second this. Growing up in BR, and also living in various locations throughout the state, Lafayette is by far the most enjoyable area that I have lived.

Unlike in Lafayette, in Baton Rouge, you can escape both if you try. Good luck in Lafayette trying to cross town and being limited to the four streets that cross the river
I already brought this up earlier in the thread, I drove 5 miles across the city (and across the river) in rush hour traffic the other day and it took me less than 15 minutes. Is that this awful inconvenience that everyone is speaking about?

What is the Lafayette snobbery?
Sure, there are some douches that don't like LSU/Baton Rouge, but I wouldn't classify those people are snobs, they are mostly losers

I have never experienced this. I'm from about 20 miles away and my wife is from Zachary. We have friends that are both from here and elsewhere and have never felt like an "outsider" because we aren't from here.
ETA: also, there are tons of people who live here that aren't from here.

It’s noticeable with the elementary schools. Most of the cathedral parents went there as kids, same for Fatima. If you aren’t from Lafayette and you objectively pick the best school, you send them to Pius.

Did anyone notice that they only considered four LA cities?
1. Lafayette
2. Shreveport
3. Baton Rouge
4. New Orleans
With those competitors, ofc Lafayette is going to come out on top. The real shocker is Shreveport over BR.

Noticed a lot of parents pulling kids from Fatima last few years, and not necessarily to reenroll at Cathedral.
I was an Ascension Day School (AES) kid a long time ago, so its fun to watch it all from an outsider's perspective.
My wife went to Cathedral and - shocker - she wants ours to go there too.

I've definitely noticed that with Fatima, but my friends who aren't from here have a pretty equal split between sending their kids to Cathedral or Pius.

Obviously I don't know everyone who goes to the 3 schools, but I've heard of people leaving Fatima, and I've heard of people leaving Pius, but I haven't heard of anyone in my circle or adjacent to my circle pulling their kids from Cathedral.

Assuming you’re talking about Lafayette, that wasn’t a bad day of traffic
If I need to get from the south side of town (where most of my family lives) to anywhere near UL or downtown, I routinely have that take me 20-25 minutes at the worst times of day. Which, amusingly, is about how long it would take me to cross Baton Rouge, which is geographically significantly larger.

Has Pius eased up on the crazy discipline? We heard some crazy stories from parents when we were trying to decide where to send our daughter

for me being an engineer, LC or BR would be better but for most, Lafayette would prolly be better.
This is Lafayette’s biggest problem. Lack of job opportunities in the industrial sector. It used to be a big player in the O&G services sector. Tons of people commute to BR or LC and deal with it.
If I have a company truck and salary or get paid from drive way to drive way then I’d consider doing that.

This.. I lived in Lafayette for a year. I never understood how people complained about traffic, it is absolutely nowhere near the nightmare that BR is with traffic.

I'm not sure what you are considering the south side of town, are you referring to Youngsville?
In my trip I went from my house off of East Bayou (which is "south Lafayette") to The Yard Goat off of Bertrand, crossed the river on Pinhook, and traffic was pretty much bumper to bumper on Kaliste and Pinhook.

My buddy showed me his daughter's conduct sheet or whatever it's called and she had 20 something comments on it
I think she's 7 years old.

My kids both went there when LeMaire and I forget the a-hole dude's name with the damn bullhorn were there.
I thought it had gotten a little less strict with them gone, but I don't know for sure. But overall, my kids received a great education there.
