Having lived there and other places in Louisiana, yes, I would agree it's the best. Problem is there isn't much to do outside of hunting and fishing. Not enough youth activities outside of baseball. Needs to get a bit more well rounded in that regard. Job market is kind of tough outside of the oilfield. Great people, great food and definitely a great place to raise a family.

Depending on exactly where you started, that trip was roughly four miles long, a solid third of it having to go in the wrong direction because of the river and the aforementioned four points to cross it, and would take you about 11 minutes.
I already stated in the thread that it was roughly 5 miles. And East Bayou is not the "tippy" top of South Lafayette

So my roughly 5 mile trip took me a bit less than 15 minutes in rush hour.
And, your roughly 5 mile trip took you a bit less than 15 minutes in traffic.
I also never once said that Baton Rouge traffic was terrible, I just think it's way overblown to say that Lafayette traffic is terrible. I feel like people who bitch about it are mostly people who are driving into either city from a neighboring suburb (if you see my posts I even pointed this out in relation to Baton Rouge and New Orleans).
ETA: Lafayette is much smaller than Baton Rouge (55 sq mi vs 88 sq mi), if you're staying within the city (not driving from outside of the city), you can essentially get anywhere you want to go within ~20 minutes regardless of traffic. IMO, that is not some awful inconvenience that people like to pretend that it is. The example that you used is going from the farthest point in South Lafayette to the most northern spot that most people would go in the city, pretty much the longest route that anyone would take if they are actually staying within city limits.

Love how there is 0 context.
I don't live in Lafayette, and I can somewhat agree, that's is probably the best in Louisiana. You have normal neighborhoods, you have the rich area, you have the shite areas. Nice downtown area that is really moving away from the bar scene. One of the largest festivals every year. Any kind of restaurant you could want, and a down home feel in a vast majority of the city. Traffic getting a little wild, but the city has blown up so damn much in the last 10 years, it's hard to adjust infrastructure at the same time.

The only sandwich I get from Old Tyme is a fried shrimp po-boy. Darrel's cannot produce this for me.

The "best" thing about those "cities" is that they are an hour away from a city with restaurants and entertainment.
You really are rather ignorant.
As for Lafayette, for a city of its size, it is an excellent place to live based on the feelings of the people I know that live there.

That's what the northshore defenders kept bringing up as to why the northshore is better than Lafayette

Fair argument. And grilled shrimp poboy is just weird.

Olde Tyme Special is better than what Darrel's has.
Fries are better, sit outside on the patio, have a beer, relax. Top notch afternoon.
shite I may go today.

Shreveport by a mile.
Heh, Lafayette has so much unique Cajun culture going for it.
What's Shreveport got that Lafayette doesn't besides shitty food and a couple of Casinos?

Olde Tyme - Meatball is untouchable, Villager's cafe in Maurice is close.
Darrel's special is better than Chris' all day
Real Jule from Julien's tough to beat as well.
I was born in BTR and moved to LFT when I was 10, Ill take Lafayette all day over BTR.
Someone mentioned not enough to do for kids, when I was a kid in the 80's I had soccer, baseball and basketball year round. If not there I was at a roller rink, hydro sliding in the Verm, or just climbing trees and riding a bike.
As an adult, I dont do the bar scene, so I can't help you there, I camp, hike, bird, fish, and hang with my family, I dont need anything else to do.

that arguement comes from parents of kids who dont play sports or do outdoor activities.
there is plenty to do in Lake Charles for kids and Lafayette has LC beat by a mile in that department
what parents are really saying when they say that is........there are not enough places where i can drop my kid off and drink at the same time or there are not enough places i can drop my kid for the day for free babysitting

this.
now i will say the shrimp was better when darrel was alive and still running the bar, because he made them use larger shrimp but its still the best shrimp poboy imo.
but i love grilled shrimp

The plot point you're missing is that your five mile trip shouldn't have been five miles. It should have been about half that, if you didn't have to drive in the wrong direction before crossing the river. Your noting that the two five mile trips take the same amount of time, again, misses the entire point that those two locations in Lafayette might have only been a couple of miles apart, while the two locations in Baton Rouge were probably four plus miles apart.
That's the point.

Got to give a little love to Pop’s poboys downtown.
Italian villager is pretty good at Villagers.
Deano’s Cajun Canaille is my favorite pizza in Lafayette

This doesn’t excuse your ignorance.
St. Tammany (especially downtown Covington, the lakefront in Mandeville, and old town in Slidell) has a really good food scene. For whatever reason, Covington has way more top shelf food options than a city its size actually should.
Plus, there is always something going on.
Again, ignorance on your part.
Being an hour from New Orleans is a win win at this point. But outside of a concert/ national theatrical show, or Saints game, I don’t have a strong desire to cross the lake.
Just my .02.
FWIW, I noted that my friends and relatives have said that Lafayette is a great place to live.

Besides USL athletics and chip on the shoulder fans, what's the issue
Within the city of Lafayette, there are as many LSU supporters and fans as there are Ragin Cajuns. Outside the city limits, support for USL drops drastically.
