Lafayette vs Mandeville/Covington

Wife (no pics) and I are looking at jobs in these two areas. I feel like if you’re going to live in south LA these are the two best options. Both are close to family for us, jobs also seem similar.
Is there a consensus on this board about or is it just everyone who loves in their respective city feels it is the best?
Trying to compare in terms of a new/young family for schools (will likely be private though anyway), safety, and things to do.

live in Lafayette and buy a camp on the Amite in Covington ftw, you're welcome

Lafayette is terrible, you’d hate it, it’s all full, etc

The traffic in the Mandeville Covington area is truly hellish. There are too many people, too many rivers, and just not enough capacity at peak hours.
With that said, it is a growing area and the people moving there are generally well educated, successful people. It’s a great place to raise kids and the private schools are very good.

Lafayette is definitely bigger, more urban feel comparatively. I like both.

It's probably this.
I live in Lafayette, mainly because it's close to family/friends, but we have a decent quality of life here. There are nice neighborhoods and good schools (private). People bitch about traffic, but those are usually people who are driving from Youngsville/Broussard into Lafayette, not people who live in the city.

I give Mandeville Covington the slight edge but you couldn’t go wrong with Lafayette either.
Both have good public schools. North Shore area is closer to the beaches for easy trips.

Have you considered opening your search to out of state options?
Seems like you’re limiting yourself greatly by picking such a small geographical area.

No more room in Mandeville/Covington, all houses have been bought up. Go to Lafayette

Mandeville/Covington isn't what it used to be 10+ years ago. It's becoming unorganized suburban sprawl. Everyime you turn around you see more and more woods and trees being cleared out. Too many people from the south shore moving up here are turning it into what they left.

Do NOT come to the northshore. We don’t want anyone else here

Unfortunately the Northshore will get more crowded, especially from 1077 to 21. Bootlegger Rd is fixing to explode. Terra Bella is getting ready to do a big expansion and 1077/1085 is going to get a lot like 59 from Abita to 190.
They are going to have to build a new bridge over the Bogue Falaya at downtown Covington which would really open up development towards Folsom and the Money Hill area....also there is the Tamarend project at Lacombe.

The good thing about Lafayette is that there are really good public school options if you move into the right zone. Throw whatever you were willing to spend on private school tuition into a 529.
Can't really speak on Mandeville/Covington.

Slidell has many amenities! Of Laffy. I don’t recommend Mandeville or Covington.
Submit pics of wife and maybe I can offer better recommendations.
