My 4th grader last year (not in this school district) had an insane amount of homework... sometimes 2-3 hours worth a night. It was never "graded" for accuracy, it was "graded" for completeness and reviewed to see if she got it right.
At that level I would say cut it down to 1-1.5 hours at most a night, but still grade it.
However, that wasn't the only stupid thing they did.
Whatever about handwriting. However, spelling is rather important. And no zeros for cheating... how is that going to prepare them for college and life beyond?

Among them, spelling and handwriting assignments will no longer be graded because they do not align with state standards. Academic dishonesty will no longer result in an automatic failure. Cheating will now be handled as a behavior referral and a student caught cheating will be allowed to re-test.

Don’t send your child to a LA public school.
Period.
Honestly, just don’t live in this state.
You will better yourself and your family if you live anywhere else.

Their LEAP scores must've been horrible last year for them to implement this shite

Two things, first, this is how colleges operate now too so perfectly I guess.
Second, OT baws are trade school advocates so it doesn't matter how it prepares you for college, that shits for nerds anyhow.

I've lived in another state - Texas. Meh.
My kids go to a very good public school in a pretty good district here in LA. If they pulled this crap I would run for School Board at the next election. After spending every meeting telling them they are fools.

Trade schools are ok with cheating? I mean... it's not a major issue for society of Suzie Ann cheats on her women's lib class. But I don't want Joe Bob cheating in his welding class and then the damn building collapses because he didn't really know how to do his job.

Good students are going to do their homework regardless, now they can pass the bad students that don’t and get them out of the system quicker.
And nobody uses public schools here

Oh they’ll know if he can weld long before he gets to a legit job site. In the real world, it’s very evident if someone is qualified for the job or not.

My kids went to Lafayette Parish public school (French). Homework was hours upon hours of busy work and teachers trying to push teaching onto the parents at home. Its about time.

Damn, that would be low even for Mississippi...

The cheating stuff is bullshite, but I'm all for this idea.

I disagree. They need to have a foundation of learning and putting in effort. Handwriting is another thing to help teach discipline and delayed gratification.

You’d rather waste tax money on a lost cause?

Lol.
Louisiana is really trying too hard to stay at the bottom in education standards.
