re: Lafayette Parish delays opening of schools til after Labor Day

I’m withdrawing my daughter from school and renting a place on the beach in Mexico until late next year. Can probably buy hcq over the counter there.

What the hell have they been doing since March?

I know a couple families with kids at Dunham in BR. Pretty much ditto for them. Their leadership has devised plans for all the scenarios through the day, from classes to class changes to lunch to carpool. Both families say they are impressed with how thorough it is. I can only imagine what a clusterfrick public schools are going to be.

What good does the delay do? What will happen after labor day that wont happen next week?

I have a feeling you’re a rarity. I’ve heard, with my own ears, teachers say they wish we’d go back to phase 1 so they could stay home.

It is really easy to group together a massive group of educators and paint them in bad light. I will agree that in some districts and furthermore in some schools specifically (even good ones) they are shitty teachers...but the vast majority that I tend to associate with are very passionate about education.

Additionally, most teachers would even agree, that education has turned into a vast bureaucracy itself and in many cases teachers aren't even allowed to "teach" in the best way the kids learn but by the book preparing for standardized testing. Truthfully - The best teachers in todays world are the ones that bend the rules and go above and beyound (This is all a whole different problem/conversation) But what I am trying to say is that it is complete ignorance to put the clusterfrick of March until now on the teachers.

Lastly - no I didn't get the quote from FB. Its actually verbatim from our GEOTUS and his administration that education is a fundamental part of society and teachers are essential workers and that returning to school would stabilize our society and allow workers to return to work, etc etc.

The hate for teachers on this board are absolutely ridiculous and if were honest with ourselves is basically equivalent with BLM "defund the police" movement's thought process. Society cannot function without education. Can there be massive improvements? yes.

Uncle Jack - my wife's entire school is ready to start tomorrow if need be. Its not that much of a rarity to be prepared at this point (to be fair, shes at a great school). Not sure about the rest.

There is only one teacher I've seen from her school begging to go back to phase 1. She's a notoriously an outspoken space cadet...

To say teachers aren't working is ridiculous. They are at school today, working and additionally have been working for weeks building/preparing for the new norm of school which required them to teach both virtually and in class. You are correct if your definition of "working" consists of being on premises but if thats the case then 75 percent of America hasnt been "working"

Again - is teacher hate really a hill we want to die on? With everything ongoing in the world, this seems like a ridiculous thing.

Sorry man that doesn't wash with me. The unions are the teachers. The loudmouth running unions are elected by the teachers to represent them. The majority don't want to be back in schools.

To each his own.

No one can please everyone but my experience, which may very well be bias to a "privileged" area..just like in politics there is a large "silent majority" of teachers who don't participate in the unions and things of that nature but genuinely work hard and have the kids best interest/education at heart.
