Lafayette bishop won’t say whether or not he’ll release names of accused priests

That baw isn’t going to. Why else would you even take that stance? SIAP
-Dozens of Roman Catholic dioceses around the U.S. have released the names of priests who sexually abused minors, but the Diocese of Lafayette has so far opted against the practice — and the bishop has declined to say whether he plans to do so in the future.
The recent announcement of a sexual-abuse investigation into St. Landry Parish priest Michael Guidry has reignited calls to the Diocese of Lafayette — including from survivors of such sexual abuse — to release the names of abusive priests from the area.
Past Bishop Michael Jarrell said in 2004 the diocese paid more than $26 million in settlements because 15 diocesan priests sexually abused 123 people. The names of some of those priests have been released through now-unsealed records from the diocese's lawsuit against its insurer — a case over how much the insurance company would pay for the claims. But the diocese has never disclosed the names on its own.
At a press conference last week announcing the Guidry investigation, Bishop Douglas Deshotel was asked whether he would commit to releasing hte names, but he wouldn't say one way or another.-

I can't believe that anyone gives hard earned money to that racket.

Sounds like a bishop who wants to run this one by the lawyers because he's been dealing with tons of lawsuits lately. Those names will get released.

Shame on these lying fricking hypocrites. The catholic church (and all others) have successfully run one of the biggest scams in human history.

Should have known when my priest invited me for pizza that it was going to come with a price. Nothing in this life is for free.

Accused or verified? No one simply accused of something should have their name released. However, if it has been proven true, then yes, their names should be released.

Sheer number of offenders (Lafayette was a place the troublemakers got sent to) and/or the fact that some of them got to keep their jobs. Probably both.
But even if the victims are gagged by the court, you'd think that the personnel movements and other moves by the church at the time would have made it pretty obvious. But, some of you people are idiots, so....

Amazing that an organization as big as the Catholic Church hasn’t gotten on the right side of this issue. It isn’t hard.
I heard a comedian speak on this lately. He basically said:
“So the Catholic Church just had a week long seminar on the sex abuse issue. Do they really need to hold a seminar on this? How about they just stop fricking little boys? I would think they could probably cover that in an email or maybe a conference call.”

This is the horrible truth hidden in plain sight.
It's bad enough that Roman Catholicism insists on unmarried celibate priests in utter disregard of scripture seemingly clueless with respect to all the problems that practice engenders.
It ought to be apparent to them that there is very likely a large pool of married and/or heterosexual men among their laity who would make excellent shepherds at the parish level and who sense God's call to that vocation.
Resisting the obvious and ignoring the scriptures they have created an unhealthy and unholy climate for their priesthood, in my opinion.
I fear the problem has been dealt with through hush money and the retention of morally corrupt priests who have been shuffled off to less high visibility dioceses.
This only perpetuates the problem and it seems the liberal leadership may turn to declaring homosexuality a Church blessed expression of biblical love and ordained ministry available, not to married men, but to single women.
If they do this they will have become apostate Episcopalians.

Never trust a religion that wants you to go around calling someone father who is not your daddy.

i need to make a thread about what went on when I was in the seminary. I left the church and for good reason
