Chicago in the summer and Houston in the winter would be a pretty good life.

Assuming you don't have to worry about cost of living
LA- the weather is great and lots to do
NYC- I like NYC more than LA but the winters
Chicago but the winters
Houston is probably the answer for most people and I could live there without changing my lifestyle but summers suck and the rest of the year isn't much better. Plus I grew up about an hour away and have lived in Houston before so wouldn't want to repeat that.

Having lived in both Houston and Chicago - give me Chicago all day.
Actually, LA is first if I can live in Orange County which I’ve also done.
LA (OC), Chicago, Houston.
Never been to NYC.

All are if you are in the right parts
Most of manhattan is awesome especially midtown. But it’s expensive af
Chicago downtown and wriggly village and a lot of north side is awesome
La has planet of great spots
Thing is those places are expensive AF
Houston has awesome suburbs, less crime and is cheaper downtown. The heights, rice village etc are pretty awesome
Why would you think any aren’t livable? Have you ever been to NYC?
Now wouldn’t want to raise a family in any of them except maybe Houston unless I was filthy filthy rich and even Houston rather be in the burbs

Houston is a place where you can afford to raise a family and accrue some wealth. “Vibe” doesn’t mean quite as much after a certain age. You can make community anywhere you go.

They already did that with DeBlasio and the city is still standing. NYC is still NYC regardless.

If I'm rich, I'm living in L.A. (Manhattan Beach). If middle class, I'll go Houston. The other options would be too impractical.

Ummm, barely! DeBlasio was the worst mayor in New York history, and between him and Cuomo, they fricked up New York more than Osama Bin Laden. After DeBlasio got done with it, New York was a hollow shell from what was given to him by Guilliani and Bloomberg, two actual good mayors.
If I had been living in NYC, I would have moved the frick out of there over DeBlasio by the end and his evil draconian policies illegally turning people into second class citizens.
Now Mamdani is here to finish the job DeBlasio started. Anyone with any sense whatsoever will immediately leave NYC should he be elected.

Which of the four largest cities is the most livable?
Lived in Houston after graduating from LSU in '99...hated Houston. Haven't been back in a while, but when I was there it had ZERO culture of its own. I could never figure out its identity. Like it couldn't decide whether it wanted to be part of Louisiana or part of Texas/Mexico.
Best part of living in Houston was moving from Westheimer and the Beltway to Richmond/Kirby area. It was an easy 2-3 minute walk to Little Woodrows (think that was the name of the bar IIRC) and being MUCH closer to the office I worked at on Allen Parkway.
Never been to LA and the only time I've been to NY was for a week nearly 37 years ago I think.
Chicago gets a bad wrap and it's somewhat justified in terms of crime, but much like any other major city, it all depends on what part of the city you're talking about. Full disclosure, my dad is from there, I've got tons of family on my dad side there. I lived in the burbs there on a couple of occasions, once when I was very young early in my parents marriage and then again for a brief period during my college years so I'm biased.
Worst parts of Chicago IMO are the winters and politics, but late spring and summer are usually awesome with so much cool outdoor shite (festivals, music, sports, etc.) to do. Architecture/culturally (not the cultcha), I think it kicks Houston and LA's arse. Also with the public transportation options, it's pretty easy to navigate around the city.
My vote would be Chicago, but again, I'm biased.

The Osama comment is out of pocket and offensive. You should calm down a little bit, although we all know you're prone to histrionics.

Chicago doesn’t seem awful.
My uncle used to work for a company based in Chicago and he would have to go there every few weeks. In winter he had to dodge chunks of ice falling off buildings.
Given baller levels of wealth, NYC would probably be a kickass place to live.

Wanting answers to this question on this forum is like watching The Kardashians to learn about world history.

But it’s true. Cuomo murdered more New Yorkers than Bin Laden did when he refused the Mercy Ship and the rec center set up for him by the Feds because it’d make Trump look good. Had Obama instead been President, Cuomo would have accepted that help and thousands of elderly people would lived through it.
As for DeBlasio, New York only strengthened under both Guilliani and Bloomberg. DeBlasio comes to town and everyone starts going out of business and leaving. The best image of DeBlasio’s term is when that scumbag shut down Times Square all so he and his evil bitch wife could all take it over on New Year’s Eve and shove it in our faces.
De Blasio should spend the rest of his life in prison for what he did during Covid and Cuomo should outright get the death penalty for it (after a fair trial for both of course). What I’m saying there is not an opinion, but a fact, and you can be offended by it all you want, but it’s true.

Despite all of the problems it's currently experiencing, New York City is still a very cool place.
If I ever win the Big lottery, once a month or so, I will sponsor a select TD poster and +1 to NYC, airfare and lodging in manhattan, for 5 or so days.
It’s a pretty damn cool place to see.

Went to chicago in December 2023 and was shocked by how much I enjoyed it.
Felt like a cleaner and smaller NYC. Was a bit nervous leading up to the trip there due to the constant reports of crime and all that shite, but I never felt uncomfortable/unsafe once.

And by the way, to prove my point, would you rather live in 2005 NYC or 2025 NYC? Or hell, how about 2001 NYC when allegedly the worst thing to ever happen to the city happened or 2021 NYC? I think it’s a pretty easy decision for both of those questions so long as I don’t force you into the Towers on that day on 9/11.
Andrew Cuomo killed 6,000+ people. That’s two 9/11s. And how was crime and business after 9/11 and through Bloomberg’s term? The city was thriving. When you think through what I’m actually saying, I’m clearly correct here.

I don't know the answer. I do know that Houston is 100x more generic, boring and lame than NYC or Chicago. And that most people on this board would never seriously consider living in LA.
