LA Legislature moving sports wagering bill

According to The Advocate, the state Senate committee's Tuesday afternoon decision to approve two measures that would give voters the right to legalize betting on college and professional sports is a start to bolstering the bill's chances of survival.

I mean everyone who is a sportsbetter already has a bookie. I dont see how much extra profit this can bring at somewhere like the Baton Rouge casinos. Maybe they are expecting those "Resorts" in Lake Charles and Shreveport to do some big business.

Legal Sports betting hasn’t provided but a million or so bucks in tax revenue for Mississippi iirc. I sports bet, but honestly could care less if it’s legal or not. The casinos in places other than Vegas are ripoffs relative to lines you can bet in other places.
All I care about is dfs passing.

Why in the hell would we spend the money on voting on this when we see the results the DFS vote yielded? The people in this state are worlds biggest marks that allow these crooks to continuously steal with no repercussions.

If we get a little bit weaker financially, they might even legalize weed. It is all about moral superiority until they are broke.

If it went to a vote of the people, full recreational weed legalization (grow your own, smoke your own, sell your own) would win in a landslide. However, in a vote of the lobbyists, it doesn’t stand a chance.
Right now, the state has a monopoly on who can grow weed (only LSU and Southern). The state gets to control who can sell it (just a handful of licensed pharmacies). They ensured that it cannot be consumed in its most common forms so possession of 99% of weed people use on their own is still illegal. Even in the approved forms, approved pharmacies, approved diagnosis, the ATC still f$&ks with businesses because they can.
All of this is to protect people from having access to what they want without having to go through someone currently using government to enrich themselves.
