Maybe but it's not the boogeyman asset forfeiture this board wants to blame for everything. Just because you hate something, you don't have to incorrectly blame it for everything every fricking time literally with no evidence.
I'm sure I could find plenty of evidence of asset forfeiture for weed arrests in LA if I wanted to look and I'm sure you would just hand wave it away as "not that common"
You keep calling everyone "alarmists" and saying it isn't about asset forfeiture, but won't tell us why Sherriff's oppose it

fines

Even without asset forfeiture, a huge number of LE agencies in Louisiana use weed as a revenue generator by popping people for possession and maybe even intent to distribute if they have a scale or bags with them. It's pretty obvious that the sheriff's association doesn't give a shite about public safety and just doesn't want their money-maker to disappear

do you know how many invasive searches start with "the smell of marijuana emitting from the vehicle"?

1.) It gives a good excuse for the police to search a vehicle for other things (like illegal guns, harsher drugs)
2.) Most of the people who are for legalization are lib losers and I don't want to see them happy.
SO you are against less government and against freeedom yet call yourself a conservative???
If so please stop and start refering to yourself as a statist. No true red blooded american who believes in freedom and limited goverment would be for a plant being illegal.
Dont you have a big government dick to go suck? I mean if you support the war on drugs, you support big daddy government spying on you at all times, support increased government theft and unconstitional actions in the form of civil forfeiture abuse and million other things.
Oh and before you call me a liberal hippie, understand I am a constitutional libertarian who is 100% more consevative than 99.9% of this board. I wouldnt use weed if it was 100% legal and had zero consequences. But who the frick am I to control others? What fricking part of prohibition do you think has worked?
how about we make alcohol illegal again?
oh frick off commie.

so you think this will pass?
Eventually, yes. But saying it won't due to "asset forfeiture" is just a crutch this board uses.

i was literally arguing this in a thread on the poli board this weekend, about how "conservatives" (aka, Trumpkins) have gone all progressive deconstructionist on words like "conservative"
at least he was honest about "owning the libs"

Explain how they are using this as a revenue generator if it's not asset forfeiture. Detail how they are getting money from weed arrests. I'll wait.
Like I said earlier, most cops turn a blind eye to weed and arrests are down for weed. Why would this be the case if arresting for weed is such a large revenue generator. I'm assuming you are implying via fees but I'd like to see a breakdown and name of these fines/fees the departments are profiting one since you are so well informed.

I mean that wouldn't change under any legalization efforts.
It would still be illegal to drive under the influence. In fact they would likely increase/tighten those laws.

There needs to be multiple parties. Those “Trumpkins” are so far from conservative it’s ridiculous. Same thing for far left extremists.

Post them. I'm only responding to what I'm replied to as I have a real job, not sitting on mounds of cash from weed sales petrified patrol deputies are going to beat down my door any minute and take my life savings like most of this board is doing.

I know of at least 3 who live off of it. My own Parish is one of them.
There is a rural parish that runs a speed trap on the interstate and the local paper is full of out-of-state people busted for all sorts of drugs and cash, frequently including large amounts of marijuana. Yeah, I just know all that none of the cash is pocketed and none of the drugs make their way back to the streets.

they're going to have to really start focusing on the nexus, especially when their search doesn't reveal MJ (and it's other drugs). practically, over time, it's going to be tougher for cops to just lie about smelling weed when they can't really show the impairment. Courts aren't going to give them the leeway once it's clear they're lying. It's a lot tougher now b/c MJ is illegal so they're being pulled over for "drug possession" and if they find drugs, rationally it's a more logical nexus.
