I don't know, why don't you ask them? It seems like they are using it as a crutch to get a larger share of incarceration money as another post suggested. I can tell you for a fact that at least one Sheriff I know doesn't give a shite about weed being illegal and that is straight from his mouth.

The infatuation with asset forfeiture when it comes to weed on this board is hilarious. You fools read an article or two and think you know what you are talking about but cops aren't seizing your pocket change when they arrest you for weed . Like I said, the investigation (wiretap, direct buys, search warrants, record checks) to acquire the information needed (no job, direct evidence that the money or assets are illegal proceeds, communications illustrating money is from drug sales) is a ton of work and the investigative units will just focus more on other drugs if they can't get a few of the low hanging fruit that are weed dealers.

Except for that wad that ends up in the officers pocket during the search warrant.

Yeah, and that is why the Sheriffs are against legalization...so their deputies can continue to pocket $10's of dollars illegally

Most cops will NEVER even arrest one person for weed in their entire career. Most Marijuana offenses are not even pursued or are just a ticket nowadays.

La. House to vote on recreational weed today.

Hypothetically, even if it passes unanimously - can JBE veto it?

Sheriff's offices are against it for the same reason they're against doing away with inspection stickers: they use it as a revenue cash cow. Bust a few college kids with a half ounce of weed and rake in the dough.

So why are they against it? So cancer patients have to depend on the state? So Old retirees can’t get some but to relax with? So adults can’t make their own choices and consume a plant?

I thought it was the job of the Louisiana Sheriff's Association to enforce laws, not make the laws.

Again, how? You are telling me they are seizing the couple hundred bucks the college kids? Not saying this hasn't been done before but cops are barely arresting for weed nationwide let alone doing the paperwork on asset forfeiture. Most don't even know what paperwork to fill out or the process . You are just being an alarmist.

He probably would (LE family) and somehow convince black voters that the bill was racist, so he HAD to veto it.

Keep it illegal.

1.) It gives a good excuse for the police to search a vehicle for other things (like illegal guns, harsher drugs)
2.) Most of the people who are for legalization are lib losers and I don't want to see them happy.

This 100%

Why do we allow the Sheriff's Association to have this much power?

Over the years they have canned numerous efforts to reform prisons, update bail/bond statutes, and now weed. Their track record indicates less concern with public good and more concern with protecting the current system

Maybe but it's not the boogeyman asset forfeiture this board wants to blame for everything. Just because you hate something, you don't have to incorrectly blame it for everything every fricking time with no evidence.

Orange man bad = Everything is Trump's fault!!!!!

1 Sherriff. One.

I know of at least 3 who live off of it. My own Parish is one of them.

My pops has MS, this would ease his pain, and finally he'd be able to break away from shitty muscle relaxers and pain pills. Legal weed is nearly impossible for him to get in this state even with it being "legal".

Eat a dick.
