There’s a reason for that

In a healthy, functional state, the largest metro area should be an economic powerhouse for the state. New Orleans has elected buffoonery into office and reaps the rewards. Baton Rouge has stagnated in the past few years, while Together Louisiana would have us all be sharecroppers again.

He certainly deserves a huge share of the blame. Edwards and crew are just piling on. We are so ducked as a state. If it weren’t for family, we would be gone.

Who needs an economy when you have all this rich, vibrant cultcha.

Not surprising given the amount of government employees that we have. 90% of them are totally useless.
We also have a huge portion of our population that doesn't work, really low education scores, no jobs for those people to fill, and the middle third of the state is only good for timber, which doesn't produce many jobs at all.
Oil prices are a scapegoat. It is easy to blame them, but that isn't the real reason our economy is garbage. Hell, timber is our biggest agricultural crop, and people around the country are building houses just as normal

It really is astonishing the sheer amount of real estate dedicated to timber in Cenla. Take the back roads from Alex to Leesville and you realize that there's just nothing out there but pine trees. It's kind of eerie.

People don’t be thinking relying on a non-diversified oil based economy with no tech development be how it is, but it do be.

so worn out and pathetic - esp considering Honor Code is bankrupting the State through Medicaid and has chased businesses away

Louisiana sucks again! This time worst of all !
Too much Frenchness. Change the capital's name to English and change LSU's colors to British Redcoat Red -- call the team the Fighting British Redcoats.

I can’t believe you actually typed all of this. Jesus.

Yep
People still make the mistake of thinking spending more money will increase primary and secondary education test scores. If a large percentage of your population isn't motivated to learn, nothing helps.
You've got to attract quality people first.

I mean....what else is there to do? That part of the state just all around sucks. Kisatchie is the best part of that entire area

Keep electing democrats that raise taxes on businesses and people, and this is what you get.
It's not like Bobby Jindal did much of anything while he was leading the state either.

I meant Louisiana should "invest" in education. Revamp the system, we know it's bloated with administration. Attract better teachers, somehow get parents involved to have an interest.
I know the Cy Fair ISD and Katy ISD in Houston area spend a few thousand less per student than EBR and get amazing results

Need to spend the money on post secondary education, research and retaining graduates.

Well yeah, they have better students with more involved parents.

Louisiana, you're America's runt.

EBR spends $10,755.00 per student
Zachary $9,780.00 per student
Katy ISD $8,596.00 per student.
Cy_Fair spends $7,967.00 per student.
I can tell you that Cy-Fair is building 4-5 new schools every year and constantly upgrading.
Starting teacher salary in Cy-Fair ISD is $53K with BS. EBR $44,500.00 with a BA degree,$48,400.00 with a PHD.
One has to wonder what EBR is spending their money on.
These schools are amazing. People often think they are on par with Louisiana suburb schools like central, Prarieville, etc... Which is simply not the case.
Please note only 2.6% of the school aged population attends private school in Houston, Austin, and San Antonio. It's over 25% for Baton Rouge and New Orleans.

Issue with your statement is that your trying to compare Louisiana to Texas. Louisiana will never beat Texas in every category except cultcha and obesity. If you’re going to compare Louisiana to other states, keep it to places like Alabama and Arkansas and Mississippi.
Also, Louisiana teaching salary seems to be fine. It actually looks maybe close to the national average? Pair that with the low cost of living, then they make decent money.

Alaska spends 20k per student with less than stellar results. One reason being is the bush schools are just high tech babysitting services.
There are a few good public schools in La but it has nothing to do with spending, or facilities. It has to do with the families who live in those districts.
