This will especially be true if CL moves.

Why don't we just copy everything Texas does?

Neither Jindal nor Bel Edwards are unintelligent. They show that our problems are way more entrenched than the Governor's office.

JBE won't improve anything either. We need to blow up our state constitution and tax structure and start over. It won't happen in my lifetime though.

Yes and, more importantly, invest and evolve our underlying infrastructure to entice business growth.

I made this point earlier, what do we offer a Fortune 500 company looking to put down roots?

We don't really offer anything but high crime, bad infrastructure and failing schools.

To be fair about the Fortune 500, there are comparable states to LA that have 0 - Mississippi and 1 - Alabama & SC.

The point of this discussion is how to improve the state. Saying that we compare favorably to the other bottom-dwellers isn't a good argument.

Oh, come on, man. Just having fun with the fact that the state of Louisiana is filled with people who really hate their state and their fellow Louisianians.

And LSU fans? Nobody hates LSU fans as much as LSU fans hate other LSU fans.

Let's face it, there's a LOT of self-hate in this state and this university. Maybe it's the same everywhere, I don't know.

Something equivalent to someone yelling in a bullhorn into their ear: RUN! RUN AWAY FROM HERE AS FAST AS YOU CAN! COME BACK WHEN YOU'RE ON VACATION!

Extraction industries are cyclical, and oil and gas are particularly boom or bust. If we were more diversified the boom periods would have more damped growth in terms of total state income.
Right now the indicators are that a boom cycle may be starting. Haven't followed offshore, but I know that land men are competing heavily to tie up sizable leases with good lease prices and generous royalties. Lot of activity on the West Bank with potential for new drilling technology in the Austin Chalk sands.
I remember a WSJ article in the 70s or 80s about all the kids at USL driving Mercedes and buying houses instead of living in the dorms.
