Poor economy, high crime, poor infrastructure, and state income taxes
Why do people live in LA?

In reality, they don't. We are one the states losing population. That's really sad because we live in the fastest growing region in the country.
I know that I'm out of here once my kids are out of HS.

Louisiana Lands In Top 10 Of Site Selection Governor’s Cup For Per Capita Performance
2018 has started out pretty good for La...Im willing to bet the numbers will be much better for 2018 than they have been the past 4 years.
quote:
Site Selection magazine ranked Louisiana No. 8, on a per capita basis, among states with the most new and expanded facilities in 2017. This year’s Governor’s Cup ranking marks the ninth consecutive year Louisiana has landed in the Top 10 for investments on a per capita basis.
LINK
quote:
The Governor’s Cup measures the quantity of significant business development projects for the calendar year. Site Selection tallies the number of projects in a state that represent one or more of the following criteria: a minimum capital investment of $1 million, 20 or more new jobs created, and 20,000 square feet or more of new building space. Louisiana recorded 125 such projects in 2017. Overall for 2017, Louisiana ranked No. 4 in the South Central Region, after a No. 3 finish the prior year. On an absolute basis, Louisiana ranked No. 17 for Governor’s Cup project performance after placing No. 11 the prior year. The state has posted rankings in recent years that exceed its prior historical performance.
quote:
Louisiana’s 43 largest projects in 2017 represented a capital investment of more than $4.66 billion, resulting in 13,138 new direct and indirect jobs and retaining 7,714 jobs at expanding employer sites in the state.

All of my family has left LA except for my uncle. We've been there since the 1700s.

Just moved to Texas and it's been the best decision I've ever made. The jobs that are in New Orleans area just aren't as high paying or plentiful.

Isn’t there a semi-growing tech field in NOLA?
Not really. Austin, Nashville, dallas, Houston all are much better places to be, and relatively close.
Hell even Huntsville is better.

Housing prices and job market are very enticing for me in fricking Mississippi. Much better than LA. I'm just not sure I can leave the family and scenery/outdoor activities.
There are good places to live in LA. You are gonna be paying high prices for them though. Is it worth it? Tough decision, but I think most people's decisions to stay here are based off of family

That was the only really tough part of our decision. My family has been in the New Orleans area since the French settled the place.

Louisiana is trash
Not that that'll ever stop them from talking shite about other places.
They take the maxim "fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life" and say 'HOLD MY BEER!"

Which I take to mean Arkansas just does the most it can with the land it has.
Arkansas is also home to 7 Fortune 500 companies which is a lot for a state that size. Do you think if Walmart started in LA that it would still be located here? Not a chance.

If I can get 5+ acres and a decent house semi-close to the Northshore or in/near the basin, I'll definitely stay. Otherwise, there are better job options and housing prices elsewhere

Neither Jindal nor Bel Edwards are unintelligent. They show that our problems are way more entrenched than the Governor's office.
