I will never understand why LA keeps supporting poor leaders in government. It’s mind blowing.

Okay, but I listed some advantages this state has that wasn’t oil and gas. What does Arkansaw or New Mexico have that makes them better economically?

It's so funny, because as you list your rice industry as a major LA contributor, Arkansas is #1 in rice production.

It's not mind blowing. This state is filled with ignorant, lazy voters who want their piece of the gubment pie. That covers our Republicans as well - they're all for cutting everyone else's pet programs but heaven forbid if something affecting their community is on the chopping block.

Look, you brought up Arkansas. And no, the state isn't a hub of global capitalism but it has a few successes. In terms of agriculture, it's pretty diverse, which is nice.
No flame. Here is an overview. I learned several things from it

You really can't overstate the effect New Orleans and Baton Rouge have in this discussion. State economies really depend on urban producers. Nothing against Mamou and Krotz Springs but their effect is minimal. Our two largest urban centers are completely dysfunctional in terms of local governing. We are overtaxed with almost no positive benefits to show for it. There is a not a single redeeming feature (except culture in NO) in these two cities to entice large scale business to lay down roots. It's amazing to travel to other Southern urban areas and immediately recognize a difference in presentation, infrastructure, and quality of life.
If you really want to push Louisiana forward, you start by pushing BR and Nola forward and, based on recent elections, the populations are not interested in that at all.

Really not surprised by any of this. This is what happens when you have more people sitting in the wagon than you do people pulling the wagon.

California used to be #1. Did Arkansas pass them?

That's obviously an issue but it really isn't a significant factor in this discussion

I was the best red rice puller at the rice research station in Crowley back in the 90s

Again, no flames... but this is very interesting
That's amazing to me. I'm sure a vast percentage are contracted to big poultry, etc, but that's a lot of farming.
Which I take to mean Arkansas just does the most it can with the land it has.

What industry is in LA besides oil? Is there any other major industry that we could have here?

Basically.
We allow people who aren't competent enough to run a Chili's run our largest cities.

This will be the case everywhere soon enough. A few States have huge economic engines that help but we're headed for idiocy.
