You think those are reasonably priced starter homes? I bought my starter home 5 years ago for $100k less

And at a much lower interest rate

What’s special out the 26 year measured time period? How do the state GDP numbers stack up for the last 10 years? 10 years seems to be more relevant because governments make spending decisions on 10 year timelines most of the time.

I think you only need to look around LA to know the answer to this will also be disappointing.

The state has done nothing to bring new industry outside of LNG facilities, and now we are so desperate to finally win something different that we are allowing META to pass off higher power bills to us for a data center that will not create a ton of permanent jobs or any real tax benefit.

I’m no fan of Jeff Landry, but he’s done a pretty good job of attracting industrial facilities and growth to this state. Something we needed desperately.

The state obviously needs to diversify into tech, finance, etc.. but it’s a start.

Take my situation as an example. Healthcare is everywhere. Why would I choose to live in LA when I could have an equal or better paying job in a safer city in a better run state?

Well?

That’s median price, starter home should be half that

With all it's issues, let's not forget we get the privilege of paying the highest combined sales tax in the nation as well.

Louisiana is really expensive to live in. We have the highest combined sales tax, the second highest car insurance rates, The second highest home insurance rates and so on.

For the luxury of paying those prices, you get abysmal roads, to be listed at the bottom of almost every metric and the main city in your state is a financially broken and poorly run joke.

Looking good Louisiana, looking real good...

Someone started a nepotism thread earlier.

This is what that does to economies.

It’s really that simple. Stifles growth and thought.

Exactly. It’s a different world than 5 years ago. I’m lucky af that I bought when I did, otherwise I’d be fricked.

With the help of AI making a table the GDP growth rate by state for the last ten years was easier than I thought:

At least Louisiana is not last when looking at the last 10 years instead of 26.

It is tough to grow when hundreds of thousands of people leave at once and assets of production are simultaneously destroyed. Between 2000 and 2010 the state grew 1.4% by population

Then don't run the state in a way that makes them want to leave. It's not that hard.

Good job

At this point, my wife is the only one that wants to stay. Both kids are ready to get out so when they move for college, we will be right behind

And somehow both pro franchise teams happen to be dead last in their respective leagues
We have both franchises being run by a version of a “dead hand”.

Premium management, coaches and players all can smell the funk of death and disorder on the Saints/Pels. They want nothing to do with them.

Between mismanagement and talent staying away, the Saints & Pels suck.

I think a lot of them were homeless.

I’m not acting like Louisiana isn’t a failure, it is, but to pretend that Katrina was just a hurricane while ignoring the flooded out below sea level epicenter of the state is silly.

I'm genuinely curious what jobs that you're looking for are available in Georgia that aren't available in someplace like Michigan, Ohio, or Missouri.

The jobs where the bosses and owners are woke AF, who can’t stand to be in a state that doesn’t respect women and trans people…
