Kansas state district and appellate courts mandate e-filing, and have for the last two years. I like it, but there have definitely been some obstacles. Appellate work is sooooooo much better and easier and less burdensome. But there is no shortage of clerks that I've seen in any jurisdiction. Judge Jimmy just isn't willing to part with the 3 people that have been making him coffee and opening his emails for the last 20 years.

I'm in Alabama and always chuckle when I think that we're actually ahead of Louisiana on technology.. (Municipal courts in AL are not on E-file. You fax those in.)
However, doesn't Louisiana still require all motions be filed using legal (8.5x14) paper? Alabama uses regular ole 8.5x11 for filings.
I couldn't imagine having to go down to the clerks office for every filing or having to hire a runner for the firm to do such.

the legal-size paper shite pisses me off, too
it's going to save me a lot of time when I can e-file and don't have to go file shite myself
we're probably going to have to change some of our civil procedure though to account for service without certified copies and what not

it's not THAT bad/foreign
hell pretty much all laws in the US are codified now, and we're not even really civil b/c jurisprudence basically controls our system

i like having both, which is what we all basically have these days
codes by themselves are just bad policy b/c it's impossible to plan for every circumstance ahead of time. if you have a code it has to have safe guards that defer to non-legal things (like the local standard/rate)
i am blown away that any pure common law system may exist. that just seems like an organizational/efficiency nightmare

I actually like the legal size paper. I can fit more shite on one page. Don't forget about the 1 1/2" margins at the top though. The clerk WILL send that shite back.
