Over the past few weekends there is a large group of volunteers cleaning up major intersections in BR. Last weekend I-12 and Sherwood. Today I-10 and Siegen. The piles of garbage they have picked up is impressive. It’s also an embarrassment that our local officials ignore this garbage and the bums and panhandlers that leave behind. My home town truly has become a shithole.

Many thanks to those involved. Anyone know who they are?

Keep TIGERTOWN BEAUTIFUL is the group

They are on Facebook. They need all the help they can get. Volunteers, trailers, trucks, tools, trash bags etc

Saw them this morning and thanked one of the ladies as I was driving by, any idea what organization it is? Or just some older people sick of the trash getting together

I’ve picked up my fair share of trash off the side of the road but it wasn’t voluntary

Nobody ever rolled down their window and thanked me

Keep Tigertown Beautiful.

And the bums will have those intersections back to third world status in no time.

They organize on NextDoor and they do areas all over town. Civic virtue is cool. I wish we had an actual day where we were all allowed to rent bulldozers and take out entire neighborhoods though. That would be cool.

I used to clean up the entrance to our neighborhood from the main drive. I would fill a utility cart and post a photo on the neighborhood FB page. Most of the trash was fast food bags of shite, cups, beer bottles and cans and dip cans. Seems people want to empty their vehicles of trash right before they turn in or right after they turn out of the subdivision. After a dozen or so,cleanups I just let it go for someone else to notice and clean up. Only a few others have cleaned up a few times.

Their organization is Keep Tigertown Beautiful. They do incredible work. The bums and shitty citizens of Baton Rouge will continue to trash the city, but they do their best to maintain some resemblance of cleanliness.

Saw this for the first time today within the last hour or so and had the exact same thoughts. Your last line really hit home for the first time for me.

I hope they got that mattress on top the Siegen overpass. It’s been there for months.

Our local government fails us on a regular basis whether it be cleaning up, road maintenance, public safety or drainage.

I wouldn’t dislike bums and pan handlers nearly as much if they were neat and tidy, and didnt just throw their shite wherever

I grew in New Orleans back in the late 60's and there were public garbage cans everywhere. There was even a marketing logo printed on the cans... It looked like an ugly hornet and had the printed words "Don't be a litter bug".. But I think "people" are more lazy and are scum bags today than back then..

This country was built on a can-do attitude and communities worked together. Then, something changed and it became "who can help me," or "what will the government do to help me."

It's refreshing to see real people doing real things for the community and not biatching and waiting for the gubment
