Why does every employer need to pay more than minimum wage? Where are high school kids and low skill workers supposed to go? 16-20 year olds don’t need more than a low paying job complimentary to their skills. I don’t understand this idea that a HS kid taking orders at a McDonald’s or stocking the shelf after school needs more than $10/ hour?

Bernies communist sympathies were known decades ago.
Still waiting on you to prove that he's communist. Haven't produced an iota of evidence other than that he said some nice things about some countries once.

Did Bernie return your donation

That city won’t understand it and will want to blame Kroger and point fingers.
Most all of the people that do have zero idea what it takes to run a business.
And most likely, that would put several of their workers higher paid than what managers in other stores are making

The left would ruin the economy on the pretense of improving the short term life of roughly a million to two million people..
I think it's part of the plan.

Maybe try looking up the full comment champ
For someone who advocates for reading full comments you sure didn't bother reading the part where I said I've seen/read all of these situations in their full context
What you fail to understand is that even after you make excuses for Bernie's comments and put them in their proper context, they're still bad comments.

Yet workers who are making minimum wage want a few more dollars an hour and the OT makes fun of them.

In response, Kroger started to close stores in cities where "hero pay" ordinances exist. The retail chain first announced intentions to close two Long Beach locations in February, stirring protests from workers and union members.
So these minimum wage workers are represented by unions?
And their union negotiated a minimum wage contract?
So this is Kroger's fault?

magine believing Bernie and the left aren't enamored with state socialism.
Bernie isn’t enamored with anything other than grifting off the political/campaign process to enrich himself and family without having to actually do any work. He doesn’t really want to be elected he’s just using the Democratic Party and the idea of free $hit to hold it hostage to make money.

Just figured someone would want a promotion or some more responsibilities in life after being a cashier for 35 years. I also don’t believe someone running a self checkout is making 80k a year but not my business anyways

shite, now they're going to have food deserts.
Hell, if people don't start showing back up to work, everywhere is going to be a food desert. Even our neck of the woods is taking a hit. Restaurants closing, service taking forever, no one wants to work. Hell, a waitress at Waffle House told us yesterday that they are even having problems. There was a cook and two servers there when we ate yesterday, and our server was 3 hours over her shift.

I know a few guys who are perfectly content riding the low responsibility gravy train. Worked in the same place for decades and never want to be a lead or management. Particularly if you cut out OT.

I've turned down multiple management positions in my career. Low level management doesn't make that much more than SR level staff in my field and they have 10x as much headache and politics to deal with. I'll never be a VP or CIO type anyway.

I've taken several management jobs where the stress/hours make the slight pay increase negligible. In fact, I left a supervisory position Friday for a non supervisory position starting Monday, same pay, less hours.

Typical low IQ response. I'm not a commie for being sympathetic to low-wage workers.
I am willing to bet you have never run or owned a business. I am also willing to bet your "job" involves quick oil changes or the question "Would you like fries with that ?"

The scary thing is it didn’t require many people or the traditional methods of checks and balances to accomplish this. It didn’t take years of legislative battles to pick the winners and losers of the shutdowns and restrictions.
Often it was a single person. Many states it was the governor, others it was a combination of the governor and mayor/commissioner/judge.
Now left leaning city councils, state legislatures, and Congress are beginning their efforts to rebuild the economy to their specifications.
Kroger was a winner, and now they have to pay the price. Retail employees are now labeled as heroes if they work at a grocery store, but they still don’t care about all the other retail and restaurant workers that have suffered for a year.

The mayor has threatened to sue Kroger over the Long Beach closures, though it's not clear on what grounds he would do so.
What kind of stuff are they smoking out there? Suing a business because they can’t afford your government edicts?
These people are out of their minds.
