Much of the NW quadrant of DC is significantly safer than New Orleans. Also the NOVA and MD suburbs are much more appealing and built up than Old Metairie and much less of a pain to get to than the Northshore. I’m not even going to bother comparing the other New Orleans suburbs.
And I’m not one of those people in the OT who act like New Orleans is more violent than Haiti or Somalia.

I feel for anyone directly affected by these people. They're a source of curiosity to me but they don't have an impact on my life at all. They're riding on their floats and going to their balls convinced they're lording it over the plebs. At the same time the people they consider beneath them are looking at them like animals in a zoo, and with about the same regard.

Cowbellion de Rakin , New Orleans secret societies would have been outlawed and disbanded for being "only" secret societies. Since these societies added parades for public view they were allowed to prevail.
Also did you know the original "Crews" are in Moblie? When the Cowbellions came to New Orleans to teach parading they wouldn't let the New Orleans guys use "Crew". Instead they used "Krew" or "Krewe".
