The East coast stops look really nice…not sure about lake and river stops.
Be a fun year if the boat was nice.
We are tentatively planning on doing it in 4 years but our plans may have changed with the last election. May just retire in a year and live the dream without doing the loop.....

They're fine cities, but the Wisconsin stops are rather unremarkable.

A buddy of mine just picked up an older 48 trawler for less than the price of a single 300hp outboard. Needed a good spit shine and a bottom job and rudders and that's about it.
I know the long range cruisers like single screws for range but I just couldn't do it. I'd need twins.

or a good radio

But that can't help keep you from crashing into shite in the marina other than issue a "I'm coming in" warning

If you're not stupid its not really a big deal these days, especially with sea tow and epribs and sat phones and badass radios. I just have some kind of mental issue with being out of sight of land and far from home on a single.
And i say that as someone who fishes offshore with a bay boat far more than anyone should.

I've been thinking of getting an old trawler up in Washington to do the island hopping up to Alaska and back, then sell it, my big concern with a trawler(and you don't have to get into blue water for that trip,) is I've been in some pretty high seas on sport fish boats and sometimes seemed like we barely had enough smash to "charge" the waves to avoid getting a wave on/over the bow

My plan when my youngest graduates HS in a year and a half is to buy a 49 Defever Pilothouse, sell all my shite and just bounce around the Caribbean.

Eventually the boat just isn't big enough anymore and you're taking it over the bow no matter who's driving.
In a trawler, you just drop the anchors batten the hatches and head below till it passes.
Sportys tend to make a guy think he can horsepower his way through the shite. Aint no such false hope with a trawler

She'll probably agree, because of the implication.

My parents did it 6 or 7 years ago.
They bought a used boat with this in mind - I think a 42 footer. Practiced on it for a few years then went for it. Challenging for a 70+ yo couple, but they loved it. Sold the boat immediately after.

Wouldnt mind retrofitting a 40' Lafitte Skiff to try it out. Mentioned it to the wife and she said, I ain't living on no boat, you going to have to do that with someone else.

That's my plan. Just trying to figure out when to try it. If the wife's Onlyfans would pick up, we'd go in 2 years.
