shite luck still sends you a bill. You think I didn't get a bill from the hospital, funeral home etc last year when my son passed? You think we were saving for that to happen? You can't lay these blanket statements as if they apply to everyone. Some people are genuinely going through bad times and not all have saving for it.

Off topic, but I think of you and your wife ALL the time. Weekly, if not more. I hope you’re holding in there okay.

Rent
Phone
Internet
Maybe car payment

Electricity
Gas (possibly)
Water
In sure there's more.

Well sure, maybe. But this thread is about not paying rent. You just made the case for unemployment working if they aren't paying rent.

The longest anyone has been out of work is 2 weeks. No reason why anyone should not be able to pay April rent. June/July if everything is still shut down, then yes.

Might be able to pay rent, but then they might be broke for the next couple of weeks.

I would think most landlords would be willing to work with tenants right now though.

Reading this board I understand you have exceptional circumstances, but the vast majority aren't in your situation.

The federal stimulus is far from a reality as of April 2, 2020. Even the fricking government doesn't know when they are gonna pay that shite out lol

It took several months to get out in 2008 btw. Government moves like an iceberg

I've resigned myself to accepting that pittance I'll be getting will just be in the form of a 2020 tax credit.

I have a kid at home so I think she'll get something. She's a teenager so I'll let her get some new spring clothes.

The wife and I are still employed so I'm not stressing about the rest of it.

It's certainly an unprecedented and fluid situation for many of us though.

Dude/dudette

I pay my lease every month. I've lived from Hoover to Gardendale in 17 years. I'm in a 2/2 right now for 809.00 per Mo.

Please tell me something I don't know/pay.

Well the site has done nothing but continually crash, so most people have not yet started to receive it.

It’s also like $200. So it ain’t gonna pay the rent in addition to bills and food.
The stimulus is giving people an extra $600 per check. I've heard some employers say they are worried about some employees going back to work when they open up bc some employees who were working entry level jobs making minimum wage or close to it (like dishwashers or prep cooks for example) will now be making more money than they were before. The employer can report them and they will no longer receive the payments but I wonder how many actually will.

I am in sick in the hospital but I paid my house payment and power bill online. Folks living paycheck to paycheck probably can't make those payments so it's nice that they don't have to but those of us that are financially stable should keep paying our bills if we are able. My wife urged me to not pay them but I think I did the right thing.

Girlfriend is a Property Manager on the South Side of Atlanta. Out of two properties with about 1300 Units you wouldn’t believe the calls they have received with people saying that “I don’t have to pay my rent “ because of this.

You want me to explain what averages are?

Congrats on your 800 dollar rental. It’s below average.

I don't think any Tuscaloosa apartment has this.
I thought rent control rates were in cities like NYC.
But, I can certainly see what you predict to happen to happen

yep thats just the big cities that have the rent control and some have been in apartments for so long they are paying rent based on 1970s prices and it will nearly double now making most of those old people on soc sec not be able to pay it

its just one of the sad side effects of all this that again only affects some of the oldest among us.

Can someone explain to me why individual working people should have so much money saved for an emergency yet LLCs that own 10 buildings, renting out store fronts and apartments, should be bereft of emergency capital?

I'm not paying rent for my shop this month, which has been shuttered since March 14th. I'm keeping capital I have saved for the business in hand until I see how this plays out. I will assume that the LLC has money saved for an emergency.
