little braxton isnt playing HS ball and the same ben sheets who went to ULM? yea lets not act like he was some god in HS who went to LSU and was all american the day he stepped on campus.

We found the poster child for Travel Ball dads.

He thinks his little Braxton is better than 4x MLB allstar Ben Sheets because Braxton plays on an "Elite" Travel ball team.

You don't have to send your kid to one of these top end schools though to get them a high school sports experience. Hell the school I chose to send mine to was more about academics than sports. Our school doesn't allow contact sports, so there is no football program. They do allow their kids to go to a neighboring school to participate in a football program.

so if you are in lafayette area can you please point to the school to send your kid to that has high academics and doesnt have behavior issues but also isnt a sports powerhouse?

what about LC? BR?

also you are assuming you can get an out of zone

for example, someone that lives in youngsville....what are their choices?

south lake charles..what are the choices? hell even moss bluff....or even south beau...again what are the choices?

live in the AP...where you sending them?

live in LP...where you sending them?

where you going in NOLA area to avoid that?

what about the northshore...where they going?

you get my point?

You telling me the good parenting thing to do is say frick you play rec so I can have more time?

Yes, I value other things. If that's what you want to do with your time, go for it though.

I took a 4 week RV trip with mine out west this year in June seeing 20 something national parks. It's not like they are missing out on experiences.

That's a you problem, I moved to an area outside of Louisiana because my parents didn't want Louisiana schools for us and I chose to find an area that I wanted for my children.

Pelican park is the same as Mandeville Little League? Sorry, I’m not from that area. Some
Little Leagues, usually the ones that can’t retain any talent, don’t want to allow the hybrid model. It’s usually a small number of board members who hate select baseball and view the hybrid model as letting the fox in the hen house. They then wonder why they can’t retain talent and get angry when their best players leave. Of course they will leave if you don’t offer them anything. If that’s what you are dealing with, your only option is to join the board and push the change like that.

did i say that?

fricking douche...i said HS baseball teams are much more advanced than before and the St Amant team last year would beat those 90s championship teams.

Did I say a word about my kid?

as far as ben goes...I said, stop acting like Ben was the same in HS as he was when was a 4x mlb all star....because he wasnt. it wasnt like big programs were beating down his door or he was a top 5 round pick....becasue he wasnt.

who he became is not who he was in hs dumbass.

We will be at the deer camp every weekend in November. Heading to South Dakota with my dog in December. We tear up the specs and bream every week in the summer

You have to find what you want for your family yourself. My situation and my pros/cons list is not going to work for you. You have to make the call what's best for your family. I have no issue with parents playing travel ball like Herby. If that's what they want to do, do it. No way would it ever work for me.

Some kids are driven past that point…you can adjust how much time you put into a sport, but at some point if they’re competing at the highest level they deserve to see where it takes them. Can’t just arbitrarily be gone for a month is the summer when recruiting is at its peak.

thats not good parenting...quite the opposite actually. you are essentially making decisions for them

thats fine. but do you think the average family that doesnt do travel is going on that type of trip?

and pretty obvious your kids didnt play sports nor do you have any expierence with travel so why do you feel like you should have an opinion on it?

Doesn't sound like you are one of the families Herby is talking about where travel ball kills the budget and vacation time for anything else.

Because herbie was talking in way too broad of generalization and people took his diatribe out of context. Anyone that thinks herbie put his sons in the local rec league is insane

You have to make decisions for your kids. But decisions that take away opportunities in life because it isn’t convenient for you is selfish IMHO

You see it differently and the world will continue to spin

if travel ball does that to you every year...than you need a better job, find a different team or re evaluate the level you play at or decide if you as a family want to sacrifice for those things.

ftr herby had his kids playing travel and private lessons. It was ok for him because he is a multi millionaire so he didnt have to sacrifice. Essentially it was ok for him to do it...but not ok for others who dont make as much.

look the average family isnt going on big vacations nor playing travel ball. Do yall really think the average family in south louisiana is taking a trip to 30a every year? going on 4 week long RV excursion as one poster mentioned?

median household take him in LA is under 60k, the average family aint doing any of that shite.

There is plenty of EDGE method training to help develop mine into a being able to make the right decisions. Limiting their ability to disrupt a good portion of our schedule with the demands on travel ball isn't one they would get to choose if I had a kid that was decent at baseball. It's just hypothetical anyway.

Probably not, not everyone has the work schedule or financial stability to do things like that. That's the same for travel ball.

Mine played soccer, softball, and volleyball. It's a discussion board, it's about discussing things here. It's an interesting discussion.
