No. Sports operates WAY differently in this regard.

because they play every damn weekend

Playing more games doesn't necessarily equate to talent. I bet they practice far more than rec teams.

Likely some fall weekends and by January, full on team practices.

When I coached in Rec, it was a lengthy sign up period, 2 weekends of previews, draft, phone calls and sizing, 2 maybe 3 practices then 2 games a week for 6 weeks, weekend reserved for rain outs. Only a few kids would show up at any practice once the season kicked off. Then repeat the process with a few different new players the next year. There never was enough time or consistency to teach beyond simple fundamentals

I don’t care one way or the other what people do, just pointing out what the facts are with travel ball

To show you how level headed I have been even Mingo agrees with me

ESA?

Currently, but back in the day, we dominated the golf and volleyball scene. Of course, that was when ESA was weird and not woke.

Hey dude, you only played D1 baseball. You aren't qualified to talk about travel ball.

if thats the qualification then i feel pretty good. look around BR, many of the guys coaching travel teams played at LSU. they are everywhere in the BR travel scene....from Cressey, to the Harris brothers, to the McClure brothers, to Liuzza etc

Go listen to that greg olsen interview from about 3 weeks ago. go talk to Cushing, go talk to all the guys involved with the woldcatters org that played high level D1 and in the show. Guess Troy Tulowitzki doesnt know shite or Miguel Cabrera doesnt know either right?

na, its monday and everyone is out right now at work and its slow af. im just doing it to pass time. I havent posted in the last 3 or 4 threads on Travel baseball because all it is is a bunch of guys like mingo who dont have kids or dont have kids playing sports telling other parents that they are not allowed to spend their own time and money as they see fit

quote:

All for his kid to be a PM at Turner Industries is the part that absolutely cracks me up

are all of that to be a lowly accountant like you and make less than the PMs at turner

I don't understand what your point is?

I am sure all of those people are very qualified to talk about travel ball and baseball in general from a perspective of authority.

For the sake of clarity, I was being facetious... I believe Lake08 is also qualified to talk about travel ball and baseball from a position of authority.

Y’all’s reasoning now has gotten off the rails

Every damn kid of every poster here is “only” going to be an accountant, an engineer, a Pm, lawyer, etc etc

So does that mean frick doing anything with them?

let’s say you have a good average high school level athlete as a son who wants to play baseball You telling me the good parenting thing to do is say frick you play rec so I can have more time?

I think there is a balance.

I think there are some absolute prodigies and certainly you don’t want to limit them but I also don’t think it’s healthy for the average 10 year old to think the world revolves around them and the rest of the family’s life shuts down to tote them around a 3 hour radius every weekend.

Correct. And the vast majority of travel ball parents and families have that balance

Yeah for an hour or two at a time.

Not the entire weekend like multiple baseball tournaments out of town.
