When I started in 2011 I lived in the BRC and some friends of mine got caught
The Punishment: They had to take some class and move into Kirby-Smith

Kirby Smith and Earl K Long Hospital were built about the same time.

I stayed there during Boys State in the summer of ‘81 when this happened

In 1981, Louisiana Boys State delegate Kirk Givens of Tioga High School in Pineville died when he fell or jumped out of his 12th floor Kirby-Smith dorm room window at Louisiana State University while sleepwalking.

They had some fricked up architecture in the 60s and 70s. Kirby looks like a Soviet style building.
Next building that needs to be razed next is the Science building. Then the Union.

damn is that pic from within the pentagon?
No. Those are new dorms. I believe they are called Cypress and north of Kirby. Pentagon is south of Kirby.

Damn, this hasn’t happened yet?!?? It was a dump back in ‘94 for Boys State. Holy shat!
It was like a larger Neilson or Caruthers dorm at LaTech, but they demolished those years ago & built brand new student housing in its place.

Cypress, spruce and cedar hall were built first all around Kirby… then they tore down the greenhouses we’re torn down ( most of them) and put in camellia hall… they wanted all these functioning before tearing resident halls down… they also finished all the residential facilities on Nicholson. They have been doing major building.. I hear Hergert etc is next on the list… I think they will tear them down also…

Does LSU ever replace anything with PARKING? They sure do replace parking with buildings.

Interesting, they added on money to my tuition for the redoing of the union and graduated before it was finished.
quote:
In 2011, the Union completed a five-year comprehensive renovation to the building, providing a fresh, new look to the entire facility. The project added a four-story wing on the southeast corner of the building, created new lobbies and meeting rooms, replaced the entire food court, added space for student organizations and activities, and renovated the entire Theater. Construction added 50,000 new square feet to the building, brought it up to life safety code and ADA requirements, and created a “living room” for the campus that will serve LSU students well into the coming decades.
not sure how much they spent, but seems like more waste if they just take it down.
