Killings of police officers up 28% so far in year of unrest

The number of police officers who have been killed while on the job is up 28% compared to this time last year.

There have been 32 felonious officer deaths as of July 14, which is up from 25 killings at the same time last year, according to data from the FBI. Seven of the officers were killed in ambushes. The data does not include officers who were accidentally killed while on the job in traffic accidents or other such tragedies.

A report from ABC News found that the uptick in killings of police officers could be connected to the nationwide protests against police brutality and racial injustice following the death of George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who died while in Minneapolis police custody. The report found that more officers have been killed during times of civil unrest.

"Going out on the street and directing violence to somebody who represents the government, because police are an arm of the government, is the easiest thing to do. There is a constant search for the scapegoat for whatever is happening in the society, and the scapegoat ends up being law enforcement regardless of what it is that people have grievances about," said Maria "Maki" Haberfeld, a professor of police science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in New York.

I guess this is why saying that everyone's life matters offends BLM supporters so much. They don't seem to care about these lives.

Nah, if you support the Police you're a "bootlicker".

Never mind the fact that the majority of them are decent, hard working folks, it' in fashion to bash the Police in Current Year because of a few bad apples.

That's not true. In towns less than 50k only about 25 percent are good people and those are some damn good people. The rest barely graduated high school.

You know the police are being done wrong when the OT stands up for them.

Our big problem is that it's difficult to get rid of bad cops. They are just like teachers in that respect.

And that fact pisses off good cops more than anyone.

And another big problem is the pay. Better pay and support can attract better candidates, for both police and teachers. The always anti-tax drum beat erodes these professions. Police departments should not be "defunded." Actually, salary and training support in the police profession should be increased. That's how we get better trained police.

Like in all professions, most police officers are good at what they do. As stated above, it's much more difficult to get rid of a bad apple than it should be. We can thank public sector unions for that.

Police are the specific target of the handful of BLM terrorists that we've seen. Certainly not something those people deserve.

Not anymore, bro.

2020 USA is going HARD Leftist.

BUT, once the Marxists take over things and put THEIR police in place -- well, let's see what happens to you if you try to set one of THEIR patrol cars on fire!

If we'd ever stop giving our treasure to the poor we could afford better teachers and cops.

Yep. Definitely.

And our "mass media" will report on these events - NOT AT ALL.

That makes it ok for them to be targeted by hate groups?

That makes it ok for them to ambushed & shot dead?

These guys deserved this?

Records released Monday reveal more details about the attack on two Baton Rouge police officers Sunday afternoon in which Ronnie Kato is accused of shooting one of his victims to death and then standing over the officer's dead body, continuing to fire an assault style rifle at close range.

quote:

"As they approached the backyard Kato opened fire with an assault style rifle striking both officers," police said, killing one officer in the ambush. "Evidence on scene indicated that the suspect stood over the deceased officer and shot him multiple times with an assault style rifle. Several of the wounds appeared to be close contact."

Why is being highly skeptical and not trusting of police automatically equate to wanting them killed?
