Is this considered use of a tool? Crazy how good these things are at hunting, and SeaWorld thought it was a good idea to swim with them..

They think orcas evolved from a carnivorous land animal.

this is more about how dumb birds are compared to the skills of the whale.

Looks like it could've had that bird any time it wanted, and was just fricking with him.

Orcas are some of tGOAT hunters. It's amazing some of the shite they are capable of.

but it got the bird and fish combo.

had it went just for bird first, one of them frickers would have snatched the fish.

He must have been hoping for one of the seagulls. That bird wasn't much bigger than the bait.

Orca doesn't want to be fed. He wants to hunt...just like the T-rex.

They are smart. They get bored. Probably more calories in that Black-crowned Night-heron than that smelt anyways.

No such thing.

However, as far as I can tell, there are no gulls of any sort in that gif. Snowy Egrets and Black-crowned Night-herons, with maybe one other thing.

Also...those are all sizeable birds. Orca's are huge.

I believe they have. Several times with their trainers.

Naw, that's bored confined intelligence. They've only made pool toys of people or reacted negatively to no treats for tricks.

Talking the surgery bites they do on sharks to get the liver and move on.

quote:

A team of scientists from the area dissected all three of the sharks, and concluded that orcas were responsible for killing the great whites and removing their livers. (One also had its heart removed, likely by a hungry killer whale.) This organ has a high level of squalene, a hydrocarbon that’s an important for producing steroids and hormones.

It's only a matter of time before they switch from nutrients to taste.

My kid was blah blah blah-ing about sharks the other day and I set him straight. Orcas can kill whales by keeping them underwater and/or covering their blowholes until they drown... they can also kill sharks by holding them upside down and inducing tonic immobility. Orcas are smart as frick.

The REAL apex predator of the sea. Thank god they haven't figured out how to adapt to land or we'd all be forced to bow before our new Orca overlords.

I have mixed feelings about the orcas targeting great whites.

On one hand, I love mother nature's natural movements and tendencies with zero remorse involved. However, great whites are my favorite animal, and it sucks that they're a food source for such an efficient predator.

Orcas flips sharks upside down, immobilizing them. And then slice em open with their fin thus gutting them.

Brutal. But sharks are assholes because they eat friendly people at the beach. Sharks deserve it.
