It’s a respect issue. He calls his mom bru and his dad too. And as many times as we’ve asked him to quit it, he can’t or just doesn’t. He had another obsessive spurt a couple of years ago with finishing every sentence he said with “right?” He still does that occasionally, but “bru/bruh” is out of control. Like the other poster said, 12 times in a disagreement is a bit much.

I agree with you and I’m on your side, it is a respect issue. I’d be annoyed too.

All I’m saying is that if you, as the step parent, are leading that charge, you will probably lose. If mom and dad are pressing this, that’s great, and of course back them up. But if they’re letting it slide then you have very little leverage.

Damn, baby sitting another man’s kid that doesn’t even respect you. Tough scene!

Or he’s Raising the other man’s child while the father sees his own son four days a month. That is a tough scene for the father.

It’s like saying “man” in a lot if sentences in the 70s/80s. Maybe 90s too and I guess still used but not as much.

Hey man!
What’s up man?
Man did you see that movie?
Man I live that band!

BTW it’s your stepson. Let the mom handle the brat.

Yeah I use all the slang words even if it’s the wrong context just to show how stupid it is.

“I agree”
“We have a deal”
“We have an understanding”
“Sounds good”

Some variation of that.

Just do like I do and ask your kids what these things mean. They’re always happy to share.

1) my 14 year old uses it a lot as well. It’s irksome but there are bigger fish to fry.

2) if you’re my exes new husband and you lay a hand on my son I’ll knock the fricking taste out of your mouth.

3) if you’re not my exes new husband (which I know you’re not) it’s still not your place to lay hands on someone else’s son.

Maybe you should have made better decisions if you don’t want other people around your son that much

My 14 year old step son uses this word 1000 times a day. If he gets upset “bru, that’s not fair!” Or if he sees something funny “bru!” Or if it’s something nice like a gift “thanks bru.” This morning we got into an argument on the way to school about seeing his gf and he prob said bru 10 times in the argument. I wanted to slap his teeth out of his mouth at that point bc I ain’t your bru. He uses it in texts too. “Alr bru.” Anyone else have kids using this word a thousand times a day in every conversation? Yea, get off my lawn, bru!

Tell him that’s not Groovy and watch his head spin.

The only bad decision I made was to marry her. The old adage about look at the mother first is 100% true. She hit menopause and went cra cra.
