They must REALLY want to cut down on the number of PCAT, GMAT, MCAT applicants 
I didn't need to write cursive until I had to take the PCAT, and... It was tough. Full paragraph of stuff in writing I hadn't used since... 4th grade?
Lady told me it actually stressed some kid out so bad that she told him to "just connect all the letters".

My son learned cursive last year in K5.He is in private school for what it's worth.

Spend that time on sentence structure and spelling. Writing pretty is no good if you cant form a sentence or paragraph. MS and LA need to get the basics down.

I am 33. The only cursive I have written since 7th grade is my name. It is literally one of the most useless skills taught in school.

Before long handwriting will have gone the way of cave drawings due to technology. I know that personally my handwriting has gotten worse over the last 10 years.
I've gotten lazy with spelling too because spell check will clean it up. I do know the difference in quite and quiet, you're/your, to/too/two, their/there/they're, etc.

And bad cursive writing is not a new phenomenon. I've had to look at really old documents like very old property sales and governmental documents that were written in cursive a couple of times. And some of that stuff is almost indecipherable.

How will they know how to write sympathy cards. Seriously, we just had one at work and 85% of the notes were in cursive.

Learning to hand write things is getting to be less important with technology. It's still a necessary skill. Writing cursive is the most efficient way.

Cursive was never the most efficient way for me. I am much faster at writing in print. My cursive looks much better than my print writing, but I never did it as quickly as print. And by the time I was in high school, it was too late and too unnecessary to build cursive speed.

They really don't. Aside from a signature, cursive will largely be extinct within our lifetime. It is very difficult to read and impractical in our day and age. Sure I'd make sure my kid knew it simply for being sophisticated and to be able to read old documents, but I highly doubt he'd utilize it all that much. In high school I wrote exclusively in cursive, but now I do print. A bit sad, but it's the state of our society.

Agreed. I always wrote with the most bland, "blackboard border" cursive in grade school. In the 8th grade I just stopped writing with it all together. A teacher called me out on a paper and asked me why it was in print. I asked her if she was really grading on the beauty of the font or the content of the paper. She got what I was saying. I work with a guy who writes with that same old fonky sixth grade cursive. It just looks trashy IMO.

So many of these responses are hard for me to comprehend. Writing in print takes me so much longer than script/cursive. Maybe the corporate and business world is different but most everyone I know in academia still use cursive. We also check our emails.
