Damn. I am out of touch. We used to get detention if you were caught with your phone at school.

Didn't realize that changed.

Can’t? You mean won’t answer or simply ignores what you are saying so doesn’t actually hear the question.

but he can play Fortnight with three friends and group chat on his phone at the same time with three others.

The solution to this is simple. Take away his phone, gaming system and computer.. but I’d caution you that if he is a really good kid in all other regards (good grades, no other behavioral issues, respectful) perhaps discuss with him what he does and sternly warn him of the consequences. Also, know that when you punish adolescents and teens, you are also effectively punishing yourself, so be prepared to take one for the team..

My friend is a child psychologist and he calls iPods and xboxes "devil devices" because all the child psychopaths that he treats play with them

She makes little crafts all the time that she gets ideas from on YouTube.

My 7 year old does this. Slime, paint, crafts. I allow it at 7 because it gets her being "crafty" or creative.

My 13 year old son loves Fortnight and all that Xbox Live stuff. Only plays at night, prefers to be outside. I think it has more to do with what we, as parents allow.

You have to be father force for both child and mom.

You lay down law.
All obey.
Don't expect mother to be a dad.

Sure their social skills are starting to atrophy, but these kids will be the ones to create a society so technologically advanced that we can barely imagine it.

Students aren't allowed to have their phones "out" where I teach. If they are caught on them, the phone is confiscated for three days. I've had a couple of 13 year olds literally want to fight me for taking their phones. Some simply refuse to give them up and have to be referred to the office. It's also becoming common for parents to lose their minds about a confiscated phone, when they are clearly aware of the rule.

Obviously kids are more addicted having grown up surrounded with the stuff, but they’re plenty of adults that are addicted too. Hell things like Facebook are used more by older people nowadays.

Santa gave my 3 and 5 year olds iPads for Christmas because they're always on my phone.

Come at me!

Really though, they can use them on weekends and from 6-8 on week nights. And we're at the camp currently fishing and messing around outside. Their iPads are here and they haven't touched them yet.
Maybe I'm actually doing a good job at this parenting thing.

I was going to start a thread about this, but I guess I’ll just leave this here.

demon child on 8 hr flight

What would the OT do? Mom comes off like a real push over. I can tell you my dad would have whooped my arse up and down that plane.

Not that I think having a phone should be allowed, but when I was in school the rule was that they’d take it and not give it back until the end of the school year. Parents almost always flipped out at the admin and got the phone back - understandably so. It was a punishment that didn’t actually punish the kids, but the parents.
